PSB Further Expands CustomSound Series with New In-Wall High Performance Loudspeaker

The CW 600E Delivers Legendary PSB Sonics to the Custom Installation Market

CEDIA Expo, Indianapolis, IN. Sept. 9, 2005 — PSB Speakers continues to expand their CustomSound Series with the highest levels of performance for in-cabinet and in-wall solutions with a new model, the CW 600E, targeted for the growing “High-End” custom installation market during CEDIA Expo 2005 in Indianapolis today.

With the popularity of hidden speakers, PSB’s CustomSound designs offer listeners an “invisible look” while delivering performance levels rivaling traditional “audiophile in-room systems”. The newest model in the series is the CW 600E Enclosed In-Wall, which employs Platinum T6 derived components and applies rigid “laser designed” MDF enclosure technology. Proprietary crossover circuitry extracts ground breaking performance from a stud based hidden speaker system.

The application specific driver complement includes dual 6 1/2″ high power shielded woofers utilizing embroidered fiberglass cones for optimum stiffness and versatility. Coupled with fortified motor construction the CW600E is equipped to deliver high performance in this demanding environment. It employs the same MTM (midrange-tweeter-midrange) components used in the T6. Dual 3 1/2″ midrange drivers with fiberglass cones deliver a natural sounding midrange response. The drivers are positioned in a MTM array around a high power, low resonance 1″ Ferrofluid-cooled aluminum dome tweeter.

The MTM array provides an unusually wide dispersion pattern at higher frequencies offering a wide horizontal and vertical “sweet spot” with superb clarity, providing multiple listeners with consistent sound reproduction.

Looking extensively at the in-wall environment, PSB came up with a specialized woofer design that allows the woofer to perform exceedingly well with restricted air volume and the typically less-than-rigid wall construction. It features high excursion woofers for the output levels that movie lovers demand.

The highly optimized crossover network matches the balance of the system to other Platinum models, which also shapes and extends bass response. The crossover is quite complex with multiple second and third order sections and an elaborate combination of air core and laminated core chokes. Film capacitors are used in all critical locations. A novel High-pass filter extends the in-cabinet bass response.

A heavily braced MDF wooden enclosure has a unique and fortified mounting design for easy and sturdy in-wall installation. The enclosure of the CW600E In-Wall mates to the wall with an aluminum extrusion-based flange and easy to use ‘dog leg’ mounting clamps. A perforated metal grille completes the look and can be easily painted to match any decor.

This attention to detail in every aspect of the CW 600E’s allowed PSB to effectively replicating the performance of the highly acclaimed Platinum T6, less only a few of the deepest bass octaves.

All the PSB CustomSound Series models can be seen in Booth # 214 at the Indiana Convention Center during CEDIA Expo 2005. The CW600E will be available in November 2005 and will sell for $2249/each MSRP.
