Outlaw Audio Teams with Dr. Hsu for its 1st Subwoofer

Sold only on the Internet, Outlaw Audio’s LFM-1 subwoofer was designed under the guidance of the famed Dr. Poh Ser Hsu. It has a long-throw 12-inch woofer, 325-Watt amplifier, and a price of just $579 each, or $999 for two.

WWW.OUTLAWAUDIO.COM (04/01/04) — Outlaw Audio, the leading Internet-only home theater and audio manufacturer, has introduced its first subwoofer, the LFM-1. The LFM-1 was developed under the guidance of Dr. Poh Ser Hsu, one of the world’s most respected subwoofer designers. The Outlaw Audio LFM-1 provides authoritative and linear bass reproduction for both music and movies. The design is both cosmetically and functionally suited for any home theater or listening room, and it is sold exclusively at www.outlawaudio.com for the impressively low price of just $579.

Unlike many home theater subwoofers which compromise fidelity in order to generate unrealistically optimistic specifications by accentuating a single overemphasized frequency band, the LFM-1 is designed for extremely linear response at very high sound pressure levels (SPL) throughout the deep bass range. Its 325 Watt BASH amplifier is capable of 1300 Watts for transients, and helps deliver an SPL rating of 115 dB (25 Hz — 180 Hz, +/- 2 dB). The driver configuration consists of a 12-inch long-throw woofer mounted in a down-firing, dual-port enclosure. This ensures maximum flexibility in placement and eliminates the audible port noise that plagues subwoofers which use side-, front-, or even rear- mounted ports.

“Our goal was to deliver a subwoofer for less than $600 that performed as well with music as it did with movies” said Outlaw Sales Manager Scott Jackson. “This required reasonably deep frequency response and powerful output, while maintaining precision driver control. Thanks to Dr. Hsu, we resisted the temptation to design a subwoofer with an output response to 16 or 18 Hz, in favor of a 25 Hz design that did not compromise SPL or raise distortion. To the Outlaws, real world performance was more important than ‘bragging rights’ to a specification that would not deliver a real benefit.”

The rear-mounted amplifier section includes both line-level and speaker-level inputs, and speaker-level outputs for use with any receiver or processor. Crossover level is continuously variable from 40 to 180 Hz, or can be bypassed entirely for ideal integration with a full-range speaker system or when used with electronics that include first class bass management.

The LFM-1 was optimized for seamless acoustic and visual integration in nearly any home theater listening room. It features an attractive black satin finish, slim 15-inch face, and an elegant inset smoked Plexiglas top panel that enable it to blend with any decor.

The Outlaw Audio LFM-1 subwoofer is currently available exclusively from the company’s online store at www.outlawaudio.com for $579. For those desiring the increasingly popular dual-subwoofer configurations, a pair of LFM-1’s can be purchased at a package price of just $999.

Privately owned, Outlaw Audio designs their own line of high-performance, high-value consumer electronics products and markets them exclusively via the internet from their www.outlawaudio.com website. The recipient of numerous major awards and “Recommended Component” ratings from major publications, Outlaw’s products are widely regarded by audiophiles around the world.
