New Front Projector Design Featuring PerkinElmers Cermax Xenon Light Engine

Indianapolis, IN – CEDIA Expo 2005 – September 7, 2005 – PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, a global technology leader in digital imaging, specialty lighting and optical detection technologies, today announced that a new front projector design, which features the next-generation in Cermax Xenon technology, a high performance light engine for video projection in home theater applications, will be on display at CEDIA Expo 2005.

Using PerkinElmer’s Cermax Xenon light engine design, customers such as Sony (CEDIA Booth #150) are now able to meet high levels of brightness, color fidelity, image quality and lamp lifetime requirements, all needed to exceed consumer expectations in the home theater market. PerkinElmer’s new Cermax Xenon technology delivers improved high lumen output, superior lamp life, greater lamp-to-lamp predictability, better image clarity, a competitive market-based price point, reduced size, and super-quiet operation, offering customers a superior alternative to mercury-based products.

“We are confident that the use of our technology will bring our customers competitive differentiation in the marketplace. In addition, it will enable PerkinElmer to capitalize on the rapidly growing home theater projection market opportunity. We are extremely pleased that customers such as Sony are selecting Cermax Xenon technology for their high profile new product introductions,” said John Roush, President, PerkinElmer Optoelectronics.

PerkinElmer’s next generation Cermax Xenon technology offers higher efficacy, low noise operation, and excellent etendue, making it the perfect light engine for large screen viewing in the home venue. Furthermore, Cermax Xenon-based microdisplays are the only ones with true instant on/off capabilities. Additional advantages of PerkinElmer’s Cermax Xenon technology include its single lamp design and simple DC operation which reduces sequencing and flicker issues. Cermax Xenon lamps are based on inert, non-toxic xenon gas which offers an environmentally-safe alternative to mercury lamps.
