KEF Muon Featured at 2008 Festival Son & Image

Award-Winning Loudspeaker to be Displayed at High-End Audio Enthusiast Show in Montreal April 3-6

Marlboro, N.J. — March 27, 2008 — As a Gold Sponsor for the 2008 Festival Son & Image (FSI), KEF, the renowned British manufacturer of audiophile-quality music and home theater speakers, will proudly present the award-winning and visually stunning Muon Loudspeaker April 3-6 in Montreal, Canada.

The Muon loudspeaker will be featured in Salon 3 at this year’s FSI, held at the Sheraton Centre in downtown Montreal. Welcoming over 12,000 visitors from Canada and the United States, FSI features the latest trends in audio, home theater, home automation and video games along with numerous conferences, debates, shows and auctions over the four-day event.

“Festival Son & Image is far and away the best High End Audio show in Canada, if not North America, so we couldn’t be happier to unveil Muon to the Canadian Audio Enthusiast audience here” states Ian Brown, Director of Sales and Marketing for KEF Canada. “The Canadian audio market remains robust, and the interest in and consumption of high end goods, both from a performance and luxury standpoint has never been greater. Muon addresses both sides with equal measure.”

The Muon loudspeaker is the result of collaboration between KEF’s world-class engineering team and visionary designer Ross Lovegrove, one of the world’s most eminent industrial designers. The aim of the Muon project was to create no less than the ultimate in sound quality and design innovation. Production is strictly limited to 100 pairs and is available exclusively in 10 cities worldwide, including New York and Los Angeles.

Standing nearly seven feet tall, the Muon loudspeaker is made from super-formed aluminum, made by a molding process similar to vacuum forming. Using malleable sheets of heated aluminum to achieve otherwise impossible shapes, the eventual form of the loudspeaker was the result of a careful convergence between Lovegrove’s design aesthetics and the physics of sound. The process by which it was conceived and executed meant that, in effect, Lovegrove sculpted the sound by ‘skinning’ the technology with purposeful form.

Muon’s four-way speaker system — mounted into the front of the structure — with its powerful bass drivers is one of the elements that make it so superior. But it is also in the upper mid-range and treble where some of the Muon’s key technologies lie in the form of the Uni-Q drive unit array, remarkable in its construction and delivering a seamless sonic picture throughout the listening environment. The Muon also incorporates KEF’s proprietary Acoustic Compliance Enhancement Technology, which effectively doubles the available cabinet volume through adsorption of air molecules by activated carbon. And the two additional bass drivers mounted in the back successfully tame room effects issues, resulting in a remarkable clean and open sound.

As a truly contemporary art form appropriate for 21st century living, Muon is unequivocally at the apex of speaker design and technology.

Talking Points:
• The award-winning Muon loudspeaker will be featured in Salon 3 at the 2008 Festival Son & Image (FSI) held April 3-6 in Montreal, Canada.
• The Muon is a state-of-the-art, super speaker created by KEF in partnership with industrial design visionary, Ross Lovegrove.
• Welcoming over 12,000 visitors from Canada and the United States, FSI features the latest trends in audio, home theater, home automation and video games along with numerous conferences, debates, shows and auctions over the four-day event.
