Edifier S880DB MKII Wireless Speakers: Hi-Fi Evolution with Bluetooth 5.3, LDAC, and Italian Style at $399?

Edifier’s S880DB MKII wireless speakers support LDAC with Bluetooth 5.3 for hi-res streaming instead of aptX HD or AirPlay.

Edifier S880DB MKII Wireless Speakers Pair Lifestyle

Wireless speakers are a crowded pond. Sonos, JBL, PSB, Fluance, Bluesound, Q Acoustics, KEF, ELAC, Triangle, Klipsch—take your pick, and that’s just scratching the surface. In a market this flooded, standing out isn’t about flashy marketing—it’s about building something that sounds solid, lasts, and doesn’t make you feel fleeced. That’s where Edifier has quietly excelled over the years. Their S880DB MKII lands as the fully upgraded successor to the S880DB, doubling down on what’s kept the brand relevant: solid build quality, smart overseas manufacturing, and pricing that stays reasonable even as tariffs threaten to nudge costs upward.

Beyond the technical upgrades, the S880DB MKII brings a noticeably more refined industrial design. Rounded edges, elegant side panels, and a subtle nod to Italian-inspired aesthetics give it a touch of Opera or Sonus faber flair—without the premium sticker shock. It’s a move that signals Edifier isn’t just chasing performance; they’re taking style seriously, making a speaker that looks as good as it sounds.

Edifier S880DB MKII: Upgraded Drivers, Titanium Tweeters, and Smarter Wireless Tech

The S880DB MKII doesn’t just talk the Hi-Fi talk—it walks it. The driver system has been fully overhauled: a 1.25-inch titanium dome tweeter (up from 1 inch) now rides on a bigger 25mm voice coil with neodymium magnets, giving highs a clarity that won’t make your ears file for divorce. The 3.75-inch mid-bass driver is redesigned too, stretching down to 50Hz with cleaner mids and a more balanced soundstage—but we’ll see if that’s true when our review sample arrives.

Under the hood, Texas Instruments chipsets team up with the XMOS XU216 processor for serious digital audio muscle. We’re talking 24-bit/96kHz playback with low distortion, and support for 24-bit/192kHz over digital inputs. Bluetooth 5.3 with LDAC at up to 990kbps keeps wireless streaming sounding sharp—assuming your Android is up to the task.

There’s a SUB OUT if you want more low-end punch, and controlling it is painless: the 2.4GHz rechargeable remote, the onboard knobs, or the EDIFIER ConneX app all give you quick access to volume, inputs, and fine-tuning. Add the auto-dimming OLED display and you’ve got a wireless speaker that’s as smart as it is solid.

What They Skipped: Missing Features You Should Know About

At $400, the S880DB MKII hits a lot of marks, but it’s not perfect. There’s no internal phono stage, no support for aptX, aptX HD, or aptX Adaptive, and Bluetooth LE Audio is absent. If you were hoping for native Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, or AirPlay, you’re out of luck. HDMI ARC/eARC? Not here. And finishes are limited to white—though, honestly, the white front baffle paired with the wood side panels isn’t exactly a tragedy.

The Bottom Line

The Edifier S880DB MKII isn’t trying to reinvent the wireless speaker wheel, but it doesn’t have to. It delivers solid build quality, upgraded drivers, titanium tweeters, LDAC over Bluetooth 5.3, and a more refined, Italian-inspired design—all at $400. Sure, it skips aptX, phono, AirPlay, and native streaming services, but for buyers who want clarity, balance, and style without bleeding cash, it’s a rare sweet spot in a crowded market.

Ian, thanks for the heads-up on this. I purchased round one over 6 years ago. And at that time, Edifier included a free month of Tidal with my purchase. And down the audio rabbit hole I went.

My wife now has these speakers (since I’ve retired), but they got me back into SERIOUSLY listening to music again, after a nearly 3 decade hiatus thanks to a career change.

Glad to see Edifier keeping this reasonable. And if you’re using for computer monitors, USB-C is all you need, IMHO.

      Catherine,

I like their products, but I’m already drowning in desktop loudspeakers. Trying to navigate the next 10 years and figure out what makes the most sense for NJ, FL and NS (which won’t be a thing I can live in until Q2 2026).

      Definitely see in-wall, in-ceiling, and on-wall becoming a reality.
