Las Vegas, NV, January 3, 2005 — Dual Electronics will soon ship the first two editions of its NavAtlasTM vehicle navigation lineup, including the first mobile GPS navigation system to incorporate an internal hard-drive system instead of more common and cumbersome CD and DVD software.

Scheduled to ship in February, the XNAV9525 mobile navigation system (SRP: $1,199.00) features a 20GB hard-drive preloaded with Tele AtlasTM digital maps for the entire continental U.S. as well as Canada, including approximately 2,000,000 points of interest.

In addition to saving the mapping software, the hard drive is partitioned so that 10GB may be used to store and access MP3 audio files through the vehicle’s audio system.

“GPS navigation is one of the most exciting product concepts to hit the mobile electronics business, but the one persistent problem until now was the need to fiddle with discs when trying to get directions,” said Robb Groner, Director of Product Development, Namsung America, Inc., parent company of Dual Electronics. “Our new XNAV9525 offers a smarter and more convenient alternative by allowing users to keep their hands on the wheel instead of searching the passenger seat or glove compartment for software.”

Designed to provide a straightforward, easy-to-operate mapping system for all consumers, the XNAV9525 offers an intuitive interface with a dedicated in-dash controller. (Dual’s XDV8125 in-dash receiver with 2.5″ TFT monitor, sold separately.) The XNAV9525 is fully compatible with other currently available receivers with A/V inputs and a monitor.

End-users who want to enjoy the approximately 5,000 songs that can be stored on the 10GB partition merely need to access the selection via the XNAV9525’s handheld remote, or via a direct connection when used with Dual’s XDV8125 FM/AM/CD receiver with 2.5″ drop-down screen.

Dual Electronics’ XNAV9525 runs on the Windows CE.NetTM operating system, using a 32-Bit processor to run the 12-channel receiver. The 20GB 2.5″ hard drive offers easy access to information, at significantly faster rates than with conventional disc-based software. As revised maps and software are introduced, users can easily update the XNAV9525 via a USB or LAN connection

The XNAV9525 is designed for placement under seats or anywhere else its compact chassis will fit. (2.25″ [H] x 8.63″ [W] x 6″ [D]; 3.3 lbs.) When used in conjunction with Dual’s in-dash, single-DIN XDV8125 receiver with drop-down 2.5″ screen, users and installers need only connect one cable between the two units for seamless interoperability. Otherwise, the XNAV9525 can be used with any receiver/monitor system by using traditional RCA interconnects and the system’s A/V outputs. (A voice guidance speaker output is included for end-users who prefer not to connect the XNAV9525 to a pre-installed audio system.)

Among its many user-friendly features, the XNAV9525 offers turn-by-turn instructions with natural voice guidance, distance information, high speed auto re-routing, and even a driving simulation analysis for maximum safety. All key functions are accessible via a remote control (included.)

NavAtlas XNAV3500P Portable Navigation System

Following the XNAV9525 in Q2, the NavAtlas NAV3500P (SRP: $999) will be a portable system that can be used as either a handheld or in-car unit, thanks to a convenient, easy-on/easy-off mount system that allows the user to move it from one vehicle to another.

Similar to the XNAV9525, Dual Electronics’ XNAV3500P will feature pre-loaded NAVTEQTM mapping software, covering the continental U.S. with 2,000,000 points of interest. However, in lieu of an internal hard disk drive, the XNAV3500P will store all information on a 1GB Compact Flash storage card that will be easily upgraded as new software is introduced. (The system will play MP3 and AVI files stored on Compact Flash cards as well.) A backup DVD with all mapping software will be included at no extra charge.

As this is a self-contained navigation system, the XNAV3500P is operated through touch-screen controls, with audio played through an internal speaker or, in vehicles, via line output. The entire unit measures 3.25″ [H] x 5.13″ [W] x 3.25″ [D] and weighs 8.0 ozs.
