Brother Introduces Industry-First Wireless Laser That Offers SOHO Users Flexible Connectivity Options For Under $150*

Today, Brother International Corporation launched its newest personal monochrome laser printers, the HL-2100 Series. The HL-2170W ($149*), successor to the award-winning HL-2070N, features wireless and Ethernet network interfaces to meet the growing demand for more flexible connectivity options in today’s home and home office environments. Brother is the first manufacturer in the industry to offer wireless connectivity on a laser printer at a breakthrough low price of under $150*.

The new HL-2100 Series also includes the HL-2140 ($119*), successor to the award-winning HL-2040 personal laser printer. These two new affordable models feature faster print speeds and a new sleek look. Both models will be available starting late December through all Brother sales channels including office superstores, major retailers and distributors.

“The demand for affordable personal laser printing for the home and home office remains strong,” said Linda Sanford, Brother Sr. Product Manager for laser printers. “By continuing to offer printers with popular features including small footprints, fast print speeds, and built-in networking capabilities, our products are ideally positioned to satisfy those customers’ demands.”

“According to Parks Associates, the number of Wi-Fi connected households will reach approximately 18.1 million by the end of 2007, and is forecasted to grow to 22.6 million by 2010,” said Kurt Scherf, Vice President and Principal Analyst, Parks Associates. Designed with those customers in mind, the HL-2170W provides flexible connectivity. Users can connect to the printer via the USB(1) interface today and later connect via its Ethernet or wireless interfaces as their needs change. The unique combination of a small footprint and built-in wireless (802.11b/g) networking allows customers the freedom to place the printer where it is most convenient without the need to be connected to a computer with wires.

FAST & AFFORDABLE
The sleek new compact HL-2170W and HL-2140 deliver fast print speeds of up to 23 pages per minute (ppm) and a superior monochrome print quality via Brother’s HQ1200 resolution (up to 2400 x 600 dpi). Both printers also feature an enclosed lower paper tray that holds up to 250 sheets of paper and a manual by-pass slot for easily feeding envelopes and letterhead.

In addition, the compact HL-2140 includes a USB(1) interface, 8MB of memory, a 1 year Express Exchange limited warranty, and has a stylish dark charcoal/gray two-tone color scheme. The HL-2170W includes PCL6 emulation, 32MB of memory, and Ethernet and wireless 802.11b/g network interfaces. Both printers are lightweight at 15 lbs. (including drum and toner) and Windows and Mac compatible.

These Energy Star Compliant models make personal printing more affordable than ever before. Both include a Toner Save Mode to extend toner life, plus high-yield cartridges are available to lower overall printings costs.

CONSUMABLES+
The HL-2100 Series share the same patented two-piece toner/drum consumables. The user has the option of either choosing a standard-yield or high-yield toner cartridge. The standard-yield replacement toner cartridge has a yield of approx. 1,500 pages(2) (TN-330: $44.99 SRP), and the high-yield toner cartridge has a yield of approx. 2,600 pages(2) (TN-360: $64.99 SRP). The drum unit has a yield of approx. 12,000 pages(3) (DR-360: SRP $99.99). Both printers ship with a starter toner cartridge that has a yield of approx. 1,000 pages(2) and a full, long life DR-360 drum unit.(3)
