Why Blu-ray?

In a sense, Blu-ray represents a “first” in consumer electronics history. Blu-ray Disc is a format that has it all — tremendous industry support and the backing of leading consumer electronics, music, gaming and personal computer brands including more than 180 companies — all choosing Blu-ray. Yet, a question that frequently comes up is “Why Blu-ray?”

Here are a few reasons why:

  • A half million PlayStation 3 Blu-ray players will ship on November 17 with more than 20 high definition games available the first day.
  • Philips’ BDP 9000 and Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 Blu-ray players are currently available in retail outlets. Soon, Blu-ray will have five players available from five different companies giving consumer’s the opportunity of “choice.”
  • Blu-ray currently has 65 movie titles available and another 50 additional titles soon to come from Fox, MGM, Paramount, Lionsgate, Disney, Warner Bros. and Sony.
  • Sony Pictures has shipped the first 50 GB Blu-ray title Click, with BlackHawk Down and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby available to consumers in November and December. Buena Vista’s 50GB Blu-ray Disc titles Enemy of the State, Flightplan, and “Pearl Harbor” are also available in November and December to consumers.

In the below link we have videotaped comments from top executives at Dell, Disney, Lionsgate, Panasonic, Philips and Sony discussing their dedication to the Blu-ray format and why they chose to back the next generation of choice. These industry leaders believe that Blu-ray delivers on what matters most to consumers.
