AVAD Adds to the Magic in South Florida

HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA March 3, 2005 The continuous and tenacious efforts of the Elf Foundation to create more Rooms of Magic – special theater rooms for sick children across the United States – has paid off handsomely in Pompano Beach, Florida with the assistance of some truly special Elves. The new theater room will bring boundless joy and happiness to a very needy group of children at the Broward Childrens Center.

Elf Foundations founder and president, Douglas Weinstein couldnt be happier with the spectacular support of everyone involved: For more than a quarter of a century, Broward Children`s Center has been a special place for special children. When Jim and JoAnn McGowan of Good Sounds made us aware of the challenges these kids face in their daily lives, we knew we had to help, and we also knew just who to turn to for local support.

With Good Sounds providing all of the design and installation work on a pro bono basis, The Elf Foundation sought out long-time advocate and AVAD’s managing director, Joe Piccirilli, for assistance. AVAD partners jumped at the opportunity to support this project with InFocus generously providing a ScreenPlay 7205 projector, Harman Kardon supplying an A/V receiver and DVD Player, while ProFlex donated the necessary cabling for the installation. To complete the theater, other manufacturers also contributed with NHT supplying a powerful 5.1 speaker system, and Niles donating an IntelliControl touchscreen remote for maximum system operation.

We are very excited to have teamed up with the Elf Foundation to create a Room of Magic, especially in our own backyard, commented Joe Piccirilli. Having the privilege to play a small part in bringing joy to the lives of these very special children is a truly remarkable experience, and an even greater reward for those who are involved.

Management of the project for The Elf Foundation and AVAD was entrusted to Good Sounds of Margate, Florida, a home theater and whole-house solutions provider. Jim and JoAnn McGowan are strong supporters of the center: These severely challenged children have such a tremendous need for outside stimuli, said JoAnn. We have it in our power to bring the magic of the movies to these kids and Jim and I cant thank the Elf Foundation, AVAD and partners enough for underwriting our project.

Opening dedication ceremonies were held February 19, 2005 and the joy and laughter was contagious. Unlike their typically developing peers many of the children we serve cant easily enjoy a quick trip to the local cinema, so The Elf Foundation and its partners bring that important quality of life experience to them, said Center CEO, Marge Evans. The Elf Foundation has given these children and children around the country a very special gift, the gift of the delight and simple joy movies can provide.
