Apacer Introduces SSD Optimizer

Apacer, a global leader in memory modules, announced today the introduction of SSD+ Optimizer, the world’s first Solid State Drive (SSD) optimization solution with HyperFast technology from performance and reliability innovator Diskeeper Corporation. Apacer collaborated with the performance and reliability software specialist to cater to consumer demand and market trends. This pioneering alliance creates a new model of partnership between software and hardware firms designed to increase SSD reliability and durability, creating an innovative new generation of SSD performance solutions.

SSDs implemented in a general purposes operating system (OS) will deteriorate in performance over time. In fact, performance can drop as much as 80% in as little as six months of normal use. HyperFast, is the software-based solution developed by Diskeeper exclusively for the new SSD+ Optimizer product. Designed to preemptively optimize the storage device at the OS level, HyperFast maintains peak performance for the extended life of the drive. HyperFast’s proprietary operations utilize revolutionary technology called InvisiTasking. InvisiTasking employs only unused system resources to operate with zero overhead on the system, therefore transparently increasing the speed, performance and reliability of the system.

The SSD is a revolutionary application of NAND flash memory, which overshadows traditional hard disk drives in terms of weight, size, temperature control, etc. SSD’s are foreseen to be the wave of the future in data storage. SEC marketing, an industry research institute, estimates the total market value of NAND Flash will amount to NT$8 billion by 2010 and its compounded annual growth rate is projected to reach 360% between 2006 and 2011. SSD’s will be the key to boosting the growth of the NAND Flash industry.

As with other technologies, SSD’s have had technical challenges to overcome, such as the limited number of erase-write cycles that undermine the SSD’s durability. Apacer and Diskeeper specifically address this issue with key design elements employed in the development of the SSD+ Optimizer. By intelligently eliminating performance degrading free space fragmentation, HyperFast Flash technology actually reduces the aggregate erase-write cycles the SSD would otherwise incur during normal usage. In addition to performance benefits, SSD+ Optimizer offers increased SSD longevity.

“Diskeeper respects the profession and experiences of Apacer in the terrain of storage as well as its leadership in the SSD market. We are happy to see that HyperFast has helped Diskeeper to bring its storage optimization technologies into a brand new area of application,” said Lawrence Cheung, General Manager, Diskeeper Corporation China Ltd.

“Apacer is optimistic on the development and applications of the SSD technology. We have taken painstaking efforts in R&Ds so that the parameters and performance of SSD products could be fully enhanced. We strived to map out a most comprehensive product line for the industry,” said Austin Chen, President of Apacer. “Apacer values its constant pursuit for quality and innovation. Through the integration of software and hardware capabilities, Apacer can now offer SSD products with higher added-values and come up with solutions that offer extraordinary competitiveness. Looking into the future, Apacer aspires to provide consumers with technologies, products and services of superior quality along with full technical support and product integrations. ”

The SSD+ optimizer is projected to launch soon. Apacer will provide its customers with all the necessary product information and technical support.
