WiiM Adds YouTube Music Across Entire Ecosystem, But Ultra Models Still Lack Apple AirPlay Support

WiiM adds YouTube Music across its ecosystem, from Ultra to Amp Ultra, with full app integration but still no Apple AirPlay on Ultra models.

WiiM Amp Ultra Streaming YouTube Music

WiiM has rolled YouTube Music across its entire lineup, from the WiiM Pro to its latest streamers, streaming amplifiers, and the CI MOD series. The move gives WiiM users direct access to YouTube Music’s massive library without workarounds, tightening the integration between one of the biggest streaming services and WiiM’s no-nonsense, high-performance hardware.

YouTube Music Integration Expands Across WiiM OS, Including Ultra and Amp Models

YouTube Music’s 100+ million tracks, curated playlists, remixes, live performances, and fan favorites are now baked directly into WiiM OS, available across nearly every device in the lineup. That includes the touchscreen-equipped WiiM Amp Ultra, the compact but capable WiiM Amp, the WiiM Ultra streamer, and the custom-install CI MOD series—hardware we’ve already put through its paces in our reviews of the Ultra, VibeLink Amp, and Amp Ultra.

WiiM says the integration streamlines access to one of the largest music catalogs in the world, delivering high-resolution audio, flexible connectivity, and intuitive control without relying on workarounds. As with all WiiM devices, YouTube Music access is centralized in the WiiM Home app, letting users handle everything from voice commands to EQ tweaks, stereo pairing, and whole-home grouping from one interface.

The rollout begins August 13th via a WiiM Home App update, continuing through the end of the month. Owners of the WiiM Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra, Amp, Amp Pro, Amp Ultra, and CI MOD S and MOD A80 can start streaming YouTube Music as soon as their device and app are updated—though a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required.

All the Music, Just Not All the Apple

The WiiM Amp, Ultra, Pro, Plus Plus, and Amp Ultra already play nice with almost every major streaming service—Spotify, Qobuz, TIDAL, Radio Paradise, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, and more. They’ll also happily dig into your own stash of digital music files, whether downloaded or ripped from CDs. Plug a USB drive into the rear USB port, and WiiM’s media library feature lets you browse and play straight from it.

You can also pull music from DLNA or Samba media servers on your home network via the WiiM Home app’s “Home Music Share” feature. The Amp Ultra goes a step further by being Roon Ready, sliding neatly into any Roon setup without a single compatibility headache.

All of the units support streaming services through the WiiM Home app and direct connection protocols like Qobuz Connect, AlexaCast, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, and Google Cast. What you won’t find is Apple Music integration in the WiiM Home app. So if you were holding out for AirPlay 2, you’re out of luck.

Before the Ultra and Amp Ultra, AirPlay 2 was standard on WiiM products, but with only 10-11% of owners bothering to use it, WiiM decided to drop the feature. Apple Music diehards will need to fall back on Bluetooth or Google Cast from an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook. Other sources are still accessible through the WiiM Home app for iOS—so yes, Apple users can still join the party, just not through Cupertino’s velvet rope.

The Bottom Line

WiiM’s YouTube Music rollout makes its streamers and amps even more versatile, but Apple users looking for AirPlay 2 on the Ultra or Amp Ultra will have to keep dreaming. Apparently WiiM dropped it due to low adoption, leaving Bluetooth and Google Cast as the only workarounds.

      Nick,

Welcome to the WiiM ecosystem. Interesting that the Mini doesn’t support. Will find out why.
