The Louvre got robbed last week, and while the culprits made headlines, Advance Paris is making a different kind of stir. Its 30th-anniversary APEX line—A8, A10, A12, and the ACD CD player—is anything but the stereotypical delicate French hi-fi. It keeps all the elegance and refinement you’d expect from a Parisian “house” sound, but adds a serious dose of slam, texture, and presence. After a month with the A10 Classic (full review due mid-November), I can tell you the press photos are doing these beauties a disservice. The build feels more German than French—precise, solid, unapologetic. Pairing it with the Q Acoustics 5040, the midrange might be the best I’ve heard yet…and that’s after 15 amplifiers through these speakers. So now the question: can the APEX A10 take that refinement and add even more slam? Something tells me it just might.

Very curious to read your review of the A10 Classic. I’ve seen it on sale for less than $3,000 and some of the video reviews I’ve seen rated it rather highly. It feels rather French-Nipponese in its execution and I like that the tubes are not just ornamental.
These APEX models look sharp.
