I have Samsung HLP5067W, bought in 2005.

Last Saturday I was watching TV, I heard "pop" noise, then my screen color looked funny (getting dark and color changed to yellow/green). I turn off the TV, restart it again, no picture will come up. And it started to make buzzing noise.

After reading posts from this site (thank you all for awesome information), I replaced my lamp (Phillip). Same problem, no picture, same noise, lamp doesn't seem to start either. Last night I tried reset my lamp timer, as soon as I plug in my TV, it started itself(of course with issues above). So I couldn't do the "Mute 1-8-2-Power" trick. All 3 lights are blinking in front.

My guess is color wheel. I will open it up and check tonight. Could it be other part? What else should I check? Thanks in advance.

Hi Lin,

It sounds that the problem is the color wheel; sometimes they shattered making a popping sound and the TV won't turn on once a sensor detects the problem. Any other board is ruled out as the possible cause of the problem because the color wheel is the component that gives the color to your TV.

I've found a color wheel replacement guide for a Samsung TV; this will give you an idea of how to change it:

This link has a detailed list of color wheel symptoms:
http://www.fixyourdlp.com/wizard/false-color-page-01.html

Note: if the lamp goes bad it won't affect the colors at all because the bulb only makes white light. The light passes through the color wheel (adds color to the light) and then it reaches the DMD board (or DLP chip) which sends the light into the screen.

This link shows the schematic of the DLP light engine (It's pretty cool):

Check this link to learn more about the DLP technology. I'm sure this will come in handy if you have any problems in the future:

Good luck Lin.
