Hlr5667wax/xaa blackout issues

My Samsung DLP has been having blackout issue. Tt will backout from 2 - 10 seconds sometimes with sound and some times with out. Sometime it won't happen for an hour or so.This also happens when watching dvd on xbox.

Hi John,

It sounds you might have a bad lamp, but let's troubleshoot first.

The lamp works with mercury gas so it has a lifespan of 6000 hours in average. So if your TV is more than 2 years old and if you haven't changed the lamp... then it's most likely your lamp is faulty. Symptoms of a defective lamp are:

>Audio with no picture
>Picture gets dimmer
>The TV works OK but it turns off after a couple of minutes.

Note: Also try taking the lamp out and check if it shattered, check the front panel to see if the lamp indicator turns red or if the temperature light is the only one lighting up, if so then the TV may be overheating, clean out the air filters.

Other possible causes:

The ballast is the board that ignites the lamp, it receives 350 Volts from the power supply and then it transforms it into 15,000 Volts to power the bulb. So if you hear buzzing, humming or rapid clicking sounds when you turn the TV on or before it goes out then your ballast may be faulty.

The color wheel spins at 5000 rpm adding color to the light, when a color wheel fails you'll get:

>Poor color, under saturated or over saturated
>Black & white picture
>The picture is intermittently in color and black & white
>The picture is showing the wrong color
>You hear a loud screeching, whining, or winding sounds (You get no picture)
>The TV starts to vibrate (You get no picture)
