How to hook up Box #5 of Direct TV?

Here's my situation...

...I currently subscribe to Direct TV with boxes in four rooms.
...My Mother just had her Direct TV turned off after her initial year. ( So her boxes are fairly new.)

...Can I use one of her boxes to hook up a 5th box in my house?
...IF SO, how do I go about doing that?

real simple...get a 22 khz multiswitch..go to radio shack..

or if ya want simplicity, then use a simple 2 way cheap splitter and have 2 receivers on the same channels..

Is there anyway to hook the 5th box up to receive different channels (not the same one as what is playing on all other 4 boxes at one moment)?

If he's got one of their new dishes with 3 LNBs and a built in switch with four outputs that might be tough or expensive to do. It would be cheaper just to do some dumpster diving and scarf another DTV dish. I see those things in the trash all the time. Fleabag swapmeets and yard sales are a good place to look also.

My two cents.

Happy Hackin!

Oh! If your paying for DTV service and adding another box I would figure you would have some negotiating leverage to get them to come out out and engineer your add on for free.

22K switch won't work in this case
I would use a 3x4 switch to split the signal

2 input in to sw 13v and 18v
4 output to 4 receivers plus 2 other inputs from dish for a total of 6 receivers if necessary

This is how to turn a 2 input signal to a 4 output signal:

Don't your mother needs to return her receivers to DirecTV?

Besides access cards are married to the receiver and they are registered to your mother.

Dennis..DF is correct...but DTV will aloow you to keep em and activate em, since U stated her contract is up..the card will only be allowed to be used again by you, if same last name and rep beives itsyour mother...but if not DTV, will often waive the $20 fee for a new access card..

King.. the 22khz switch will and does work..and I would use the $40 6x8 switch shown in the link above, U can have 6 sats (just use a slimline dish) and 8 receivers..I am very familiar with DTV, switches and installations.

If ya have DTV come , they will want installers fee to add a new dish, LNB or switch....DIY with the 6x8 switch

LK on 5th April at 10:46pm
"again..
real simple...get a 22 khz multiswitch..go to radio shack.. "
The just six minutes later she had to send the customer to her favourite site (where she get commissions and ads) - radio shack was out!!
Today King Tapeman tells her;
" 22K switch won't work in this case
I would use a 3x4 switch to split the signal "

Immediately LK changes her stance and tries to negate King Tapeman, by saying "King.. the 22khz switch will and does work..and I would use the $40 6x8 switch shown in the link above,...."

Now as far as I know (and LK will contradict me) there is a whole world of difference between a "22khz switch" and a "6x8 switch".

The fact is LK does not know nor does she have a clue. As long as she can contradict somebody or attack somebody she is happy.

Get this straight you paranoid psychotic old woman - you will not get rid of King Tapeman or me or Plymouth or African or a dozen other posters here who are giving real help.

LK: We all know you are a master of C/P.
the problem is: why did you recommend 22Khz switch first and then change because King found fault with your post.
why did you not agree that King was right in correcting you?

22K is an on/off switch
Mainly to be used to add an extra satellite not to expand an extra receiver

The 6x8 switch is for 3 satellites
Each sat requires 2 inputs for 13/18volt or for vertical and horizontal switchings

6x8 is for 3 sats, 8 receivers
But my answer is an extra 3x4 switch will convert a 2 input to a 4 output I'm a 100% sure and will do the job despite if dtv recommends something else
I'm not a dtv technician however it's an insult to call me a technician

also FYI..the DTV phase 3 triple LNB has an internal 22khz switch..

Nalin and all your aliases....U do NOT know about FTA...and are just a Dishnet official/mole here working with Ecoustics, monitoring the members and FTA news...get out of this thread, and site!

Anybody who listens to you deserves the $4000 civil suit that U will have brought down on them..

I posted as above only to hurt Nalin and damage his reputation.

I, LK, wish to apologize

It's never to my intention to say who is right or wrong I just give my prospective and the user or reader can decide for himself there is no winner or loser exchange of information is the key for everyone to learn

Yo can cascade 3 of 22k sw to make a 4 input to one output it's mainly how a DISEqC switch is made anyway

Upload

but this user Dennis Gall wants to increase the # of outputs and in this situation yo would want to split the signal so the 3x4 switch I got above can do it much easier than a 22k sw

"King too much switch can lose db signal, "
Not too much one or two Dbs even much less if yo use good connectors and quad shield RG-6
It's how they make all the circuits for satellites the concept is the same

I'm not recommending 3 of 22k switches over DISEqC I'm only saying it's the equivalent of

Using a combined circuit is to cut down on too many unnecessary coax cables but will work I assure yo just as good.

For me 1 or 2 db is too much on west sat.
How you can select port 2 on upper left switch if on the first lower switch you select port 1 ?

If you subscribe to DirecTV
one phone call to them will
get you the answers you need.

As you can very well see, you are wasting your time here. After 3 days and
28 Posts still no answers to your questions. Only DirecTV
can answer your questions

I love to look at your stupid answers and King's great suggestions.
If I helped, it would be over quickly or if you don't like that I know much more than you, you will get your cronies to pic bomb it.
Right now, I prefer to lagh at your continuous change of mind. -
From use 22k switch
to use 6 to 8 multiswitch
to ask DTV.

Three answers require three cheers (we use that in cricket)
