With new Bin's being released so often so many of you are losing channels during the updating process.. To save alot of time I thought I would post a few suggestions of what you should do before or during the updating process every time you upload a new bin in your receiver.

I do this each time and never have any data loss I just do it this way, in this order, and watch tv seconds after putting the new bin in my receiver not after fighting my receiver for hours or day's.

Upload

#1 BEFORE you disconnect your receiver from the TV make a note of ALL antenna settings for every Satellite you can receive. You could do this ANYTIME so its done. I have it all in nice text DOC in my computer.

#2 Download the new bin from the "home" forum for your receiver. Never pay for free info. Unzip the file and place it inside a folder on your computer named "new bin 12-03-09 or whatever the date is.

#3 Go to Viewsatusa.com or wherever on the nett you can get one and get a FRESH UPDATED copy of the satfile. Place this file inside that folder you made today.

#5 Use the Loader Program or USB drive to copy the channnel list FROM your receiver to the computer. Place that file indise the folder you made today.

#6 Use the loader Program or USB drive to install the new bin, satfile, and Channel List from the folder you made today.

#8 Connect your receiver back to TV, LNB and whatever else you normaly do.

#9 Using you notes make sure all settings are the same as before in each satallite you can receive in antenna settings.

#10 Turn it to a sat and if need be let it autoroll. Sometimes this step takes 3 min sometimes 10. If you interrupt it by changing channels it will take longer so just let it roll.

#11 Watch tv. Be thankfull it works.

#12 After using the receiver for a while go to the "home" forum for you receiver and report any Bug's or thank the coders for their hard work.

Yes their are a few extra steps here than what some people will say do they do but when these steps are done they save ALOT of time and energy fixing trouble after a data loss. I have 17 sat's scanned with 2700 channels it would take me about 5 hours to get everything back the way I like it. I am sure others will jump here and say stuff like "I never do all that and I never have troube" That is fine I am just saying if you do this you will not have trouble due to data loss or settings being wrong. It takes me about 5 min to do this each time so its not a big deal.

TESTER, What is a Sat File?
C/P SAT files are ASCII text files that may be viewed with a simple text editor. A SAT file
contains carriage returns, white space and other formatting that makes it readable to the
human eye. A SAT file has a .sat file extension.

David,

The satfile is the file your receiver uses to get information everything from all the transponders to its position the the belt. What can and has happened ALOT is the channel list will have a channels information as being for example on transponder 224324 on echostar 4 but the SILLY receiver during the update process deleted some of the transponders in the satfile so the receiver CANNOT tune to that channel and you will see in the info bar.....autoroll processing making you think that it is in fact autorolling....

so...update with the new bin, then a satfile, and your channel list to save all that from happining...

DumDude,

To upload the list's from the receiver do this

You have to have the receiver connected to a tv and computer at the same time...a pain I know

you hit menu, receiver upgrade, channel information or satfile then open the loader2 program and click on STP-PC it will take A few seconds.....watch CLOSE WERE IT SAVES IT ON YOUR COMPUTER as a computer tech I see all the time were people loss files on their computer..it SHOULD place it on your desktop. Make a folder and name it receiver and dragg it their so you can find it.....do both the satfile and channel data.....must have both..

hope that helps you all

To make a backup using the loader program

Connect your receiver to both a tv and computer.

hit menu, system Information, Receiver upgrade, go down to satellite and hit ok.....a process bar will appear then start the loader program on the host computer and hit the STB-PC button...

repeat for the channel list

make a folder on your desktop and dragg the files to it so you can find it later

now you have backups!

All users as I stated in the guide above

If do like FTABS suggests you take a huge chance of data loss and you will be fighting your receiver for hours trying to get everything back. Putting in the 2 small files (satfile, channel file) takes a extra 2 minutes no big deal..

this guide is used by many users if you do not want to FINE but stop arguing its usefulness!

What you decribe their is not even close to what the guide say's.

lets break it down for you...what happens here is when you install a new bin the receiver overwrites the old one. In order to do this it takes all the memory the receiver has and in this process SOMETIMES not always but often enough it will delete some data in the channel list and or the satfile....

To save a user hours of work I suggest that you install a prefect 100% complete not missing data satfile it is a small tiny file that takes the slowest computer in the world less than 1 minute to install.....The same thing for your channel list it is a TINY file will take 1 minute

You are already here connected to the computer what is 1 more minute gonna hurt? Sure the hell beats the receiver not getting channels anymore..

I am only here to help you or any other user.

If installing the satfile and channel list offends you so much please disconnect your receiver from your TV and antenna and place it inside your trash can.

I guess your knowlage of LSI chips is limited,if
u know what a eeprom does then u know what i am talking about. Most of the guides are written by
someone trying to be somebody. sorry if your skills is limited.most of the problems that people have is trying to do to much with so little.doing as i stated will cause less problems

You are not understanding this for some reason.

We are seeing receivers lose data if a user just installs the new bin.

It takes 2 more mins to do install the satfile and channel list.

This is not about you its about EVERY user having the tools needed to easily update their receiver.

This has been proven to be the best way to have no problems.

We do not want to see users coming in here and seeing bad information like what you are posting and not doing as the guide suggests then having data loss.

I still do not see why this extra few seconds of time that will save a user hours of work would offend you so much.

Good luck with your system.
