I got one posting from other website regarding how to revive a dead viewsat. Not sure how accurate is the information but thought to share it with you for broader discussion. best

"USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

It has been reported that several viewsat units (new or recently new, out of the box) are totally dead, meaning no power at all, or, will suddenly go dead without any apparent reason. The following procedure should only be used for a completely dead unit:

You must replace this Integrated Circuit located on power supply (5L0365R) or you may replace it with KA5L0365RN from Mouser Electronics - (www.mouser.com) The cost price is approximately $1.61 plus shipping and applicable taxes.

Before using this procedure open the Unit and inspect the fuse to ensure that it is not burnt out. If the fuse is not burnt then proceed to replace the IC.

You need small cutters to cut all 8 legs on chip and remove it. This is easy.
Then you need a heat gun. Heat the back side of chip while applying a little pressure under chip and it will pull out of the board.
Then use desoldering braid or some kind of desoldering tool . Make sure you place new chip in the exact same postion as the old one was.
Using a pair of fine needle nose pliers hold chiip in holes but not too rigid. Heat with gun and the chip will slip right into old holes. Do this with great care as these chips are static and sensitive and heat sensitive.

Once replaced inspect and double check your work to ensure everything is as it should be. Plug the Unit into a power outlet and you should have power to the receiver."
