I have a few friends whom I help with all this FTA stuff. I encounter various receiver models and loading bins/files becomes a pain in the butt sometimes.
I have a laptop that does not have a Serial port -- so I use a USB to serial cable. The issue is that this USB cable installs itself at COM 6 port on my laptop.
Now, the loader for Fortec Lifetime Ultra (BlacklistSTBUPDATER1.3.exe) can only work on COM1 to COM5 -- there is no option for COM6, whereas, the loader for Viewsat XT (Loader2.exe) can work with COM1 to COM10.
What do you think is the work around for this situation. Is there a better loader I can use ? Is there a universal file loader that I can use to flash all receivers ??
I can load onto my viewsat with the USB adapter no problem. As soon as I use STBUPLOADER1.3 or 1.4 The STB Goes into knight rider mode. If the # on the receiver do not match the download percent CANCEL the procedure. I have to copy the Bins onto a disk and use an old PC. Change the Usb com port on the laptop: contol panel:systems:hardware:device manager.
