Ya know... I thought I was an intelligent person...
I've been reading and fiddling with my new satellite system for weeks now and can't even seem to get the basics straightened out. At this point I'd be happy to get plain FTA.

I'm in Newark Delaware and have a 4000 Pro receiver, 33"dish ,motor(sg2100 DisEqC 1.2, two different lnbs (standard ku & dss dual)
I also have a 6' aluminum dish with dual c/ku analog lnbs and a Toshiba trx-1820 receiver. Thats a different story....

I'm looking for someone to come to the house, check my work and walk me thru some of this stuff.
Reasonable expenses will be paid, or barter of HVAC/R service can be accommodated.

If you are willing to help please respond to:
pffester02@comcast.net

Thanks much!

Sorry I don't do Field Service

But it is not that hard to get it up and runing
You can easly get 3 Sats with 33" you got
For the 6' you won't get more channels on C-band that KU won't give you

First thing you need to do is find a spot to bolt your 33" dish to 119W

- Newark is 25 degrees Elevation
- 235 degrees from north (you go clockwise)
- What brand is your dish and LNBs?
- You'll need DISEqC switch and quad shield (RG-6)cables with good crimps

Thanks for the reply. Its a digiwave 33" dish.
You say 235 degrees from north...is that with or without the correction? true or magnetic?

Just a idea for you guy!

Why not get a signal finder off of ebay or from sadoun. It will make it that much easier.. For the price of a couple good cases of beer you can own one.. Makes setting up a matter of min's verse hours or days of fustration by guessing and doing it by hand..

that was a great thread on how to set up the dish Kavin. Thank you. I'll be out there tomorrow tryin again.

One question (for anyone)Polarization ?

I'm at 39*40'N and 75*43'W. Should the LNB be skewed one way or the other? ....or just get out there and mess with it till you get a picture?

Thanks for helpin' the Nubies....

Hey daniel
Motor is set to "O"
LNB straight down
On antenna setup set skew to "O"

Your mast must be level East to West
North to South. Now mount the motor
Point it South at 180 + 9.8 Magnetic
Deviation =190 drgrees .once you have
done this, set the motor to your Latitude
and secure it down.

ok...
mast true ns/ew
I set motor to 0
bought a fancy electronic compass that allows for magnetic deviation (I set it for 11*W, your calculation may be better?)
pointed the dish to 180* which now should be true south.
according to manual, Dish angle bracket set to ~23.9* (Angle of motor minus declination angle = dish bracket angle)
30* minus 6.1 = 23.9 for 39* Latitude
Elevation angle set to 51 (per manual) which corresponds to 39* latitude on the opposite side of the bracket.
digiwave single standard lnbf aligned to 0 in its bracket.
Satellites directly South of me should be AMC6 @ 72*w and AMC5 @ 79*w
The C**lsat screen shows 80% signal but <10% quality. I did a blind scan on both satellites and got no channels.

What is the error in my thinking?

forget the motor direction for basic set-up start
- Find your true north (e.g. include Mag Dev)
- Go 235 deg clock-wise
- Set dish elevation to 25 deg
- After you get your first SAT then add motor

With a signal of 80% and 10% quality
you are almost there.
Move the motor by hand Very Slowly left
or right until the quality rise.
Now adjust your Dish Elevation.
Move it very, very, slowly up or down.

For EchoStar 7 at 119.oW 245 Degrees.

What LNBs are you using?
For 119 you will need a Circular LNB.
This Bird EchoStar 7 @ 119.oW has
around 350 Channels, list some of
these scrambled channels. I will
check them to see if you are on 119

True FTA Satellite is Intelsat Americas 5
at 97 .oW around 200 Channels, but has alot Ethnic Broadcasting.
You will need a Linear LNB.

ok currently seeing scrambled channels (not really) called:
tv7210-11724vEc, tv7211-13, 16, 675, 705, 709-712, 728, 751 etc... Channels are also duplicated with Ga after them. (I ran another scan?)

I'm using this lnbf:Upload

I also have a DSS dual lnb somewhere....
