this is a copy and paste of a good info

Null modem cable with db9 female to female connectors that allows a user to upgrade program file. connecting them to Pc via their communication port (rs-232 ports)

Straight modem cable allows a user to upgrade program file from PANSAT & FORTEC receivers . connecting them to Pc via their communication port (rs-232 ports)

i had that problem befor until i found out i had a wrong cable

The above is not necessarily true. You should check your receiver specs to find out which cable it needs.

For instance, I have a Pansat 3500sd and it requires a null modem cable, contrary to what you have listed.

And it's not called a "straight modem" cable; it's called a "straight through" cable.
