Assume (i) Sony SXRD (1080p), (ii) only DVDs and HD sports will be viewed and (iii) cost is not a concern. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Is 9ft the minimum or maximum seating distance?

To receive the full definition quality of a 60", you wouldn't want to sit any closer than about 7ft. 12-13ft would be more ideal to achieve best results. With that said, you should do just fine with the 60" at 9ft away!

From 9 ft away, a 50" 1080p set will look exactly the same as a 720p set with DVDs and HD content.
However you will be able to see a diference with a 60" set.

I sit 9ft from my TV and I find my 52" 720p set to be just about perfect. If you don't care about cost, I'd say go with the 60", but if money was a concern a 50" 720p set would save a few grand.

Thanks, guys. I am very fortunate that money is not a concern. And the configuration is such that each seat is about 9' away. Looks like I will go with the 60".

a 60" 720p might look a little grainy from 9ft, but the 60" 1080p Sony should be perfect. Enjoy!!!
