Samsung vs. LG

I like 2 sets. The Samsung (50") and the LG (52"). I've looked at the Samsung 5063 and the 5065. (By the way, what's the difference?) In the showroom, the LG looks like a better picture overall. However, the LG is $2,600, the 5063 $2,500 and the 5065 is $2,200. Any thoughts or recommendations?

I'm pretty sure the 5065 is the HL-N series produced about four generations back in late 2003 and early 2004. It has an HD2 chip set with a generation 2 light engine and suffered from green tint issues and rainbows.
The 5063 is the first HL-P series produced three generations back in early 2004 and has the HD3 chip set and the 3rd generation light engine. It has CinemaSmooth technology, no green tint issues, and very few people see any rainbows. Some early production issues were failing lamps, high pitched sounding color wheels, and screen smudges, all of which are resolved under the manufacturers warranty with no further issues so far.
These models are followed by the 5085 and the latest 5674 series, which have the higher contrast HD2+ Mustang chip set with the 4th generation light engine. No serious production issues so far.

I have the HL-P5063W and the picture is stunning. I've had the lamp and color wheel replaced under warranty with the better parts. (Phillips lamp and "Air Bearing" color wheel) All is fine for almost a year now. Get the extended warranty no matter what you choose. These are all new inventions and they all have some issues either out of the box or in time. Here are some links for price comparison.

I have several cousins that work at Samsung in Korea. One of them works on their television screens and both of them have told me to buy LG instead. Both have let me know that LG is usually 1 generation ahead of Samsung.

Dunno if that helps or not.
