Local HD Channels

Unregistered guest
I live in the Charlotte area and have DirecTV.

I would like to know how I can receive my local channels in HD. Is there any other way to get them in HD other than going up on my roof and putting up a TV antenna? Will rabbit ears do the trick? Would I need another receiver other than the HD DirecTV to view these channels?
Does anyone know when all this non-sense will stop and DirecTV et all will just start sending the locals in HD?

Thanks

First of all, you have to have an off-the-air (OTA) tuner or an integrated HDTV. Provided that your area network TV stations do broadcast in HD, you can put up the antenna either on the roof top, attic or window sill. If your house has a generally unobstructive view towards the broadcast towers direction, you may get away with an indoor HD antenna. Zenith makes one that looks very cool, kind of like an model airplane for under $40. Rabbit ears may be OK but I think they are more for VHF signals. HD is broadcasted in UHF, so it is better to use the loop or fish bone type antenna.
