Some confusion about different kinds of RPTV

I am thinking about upgrading my 10 year old
tv to a HD set.
I am thinking about getting a RPTV.
My main use would mostly be for
gaming and dvd movies.

I have done some research on this topic and
did some shopping around. I must say I am
getting very confused.

I heard good things about dlp RPTV.
So, I went to the store and look at them.
I must say I wasn't really impressed with
the Optoma and Toshiba. The PQ is just not
there. I don't care for Samsung's pedestal
styling. That leaves Panasonic and Mitsubishi.
I really like the Misubishi (I can still see
some low-level noise). However, the Mitsubishi is
about $4000 (if you get the stand). This is
quite expensive.

I look at a Sony LCD rptv. The PQ is so so
(problem with black).

Then I look at the old dinosaur CRT rptv (sony).
IMO, this set looks better than LCD and even
the DLP. The price is 50% of the DLP.
So, now I am leaning towarding getting this old
tech stuff. However, I do have some questions.

1. Is it difficult to calibrate the convergence
(my understanding is this is once a year thing).

2. What is this thing I hear about CRT not be
able to display 720p? Is this related to CRT
being "analog" vs DLP/LCD being purely "digital".
(don't quite understand this analog vs digital)

Thanks!

Samsungs aren't limited to pedestal. If you look at an HLP 5063W you won't look any further. In my opinion, the picture quality is unmatched. The bugs have been mostly worked out. Get an extended warranty no matter what you choose. The newer 5674 model is well respected. Some swear by the RCA DLP models. CRT's are old tech, heavy, and convergence is an issue. LCD's look great. They just don't last very long (2500 hrs.) before they have have pixels failing, some sooner. DLP's will show 720P an 1080I resolutions. For HD there is nothing better except maybe high end front projection three chip models costing $20k or more. DLP's have come down in price lately too. Here are links.
