To clarify my earlier question - I planned on running component video from DVD/CD to TV for video feed. I planned on optical cable from DVD to Receiver for audio feed.

Looks like you're on the right track. Cable TV goes directly to the TV TV audio outputs goes to the receiver, this is where you will need the stereo cables.
