If you listen to a lot of two-channel audio (CDs, FM, broadcast or cable TV or VHS), DPL is an attractive feature. Conversely, DVD is your primary audio/video source and you already have a DD/DTS preamp or receiver, or if you'll be adding DVD-Audio/SACD to your system, DPLII isn't as necessary. In any event, most new receivers these days are including it, and in a year or two, it could be on every new receiver (when Matsushita starts putting it on Technics receivers, you can start taking DPLII inclusion for granted).

My own experience with DPLII has been to use the Music mode for everything (music and TV). The center channel still predominates in Movie mode, whereas Music mode gives you a wider spread.
