i have a JVC RX-7030V receiver:
http://www.athenaspeakers.com/v2/product.php?ident=C.5+Center+Channel&sub=specs
the dvd player (Panasonic DVD-S35) is connected to the receiver with an optical cable (i have also tried standard connection and it does the same) and i have replaced the speaker wire already.
when i play cd's or dvd's i get distortion in my center channel speaker after about 30-45min of playback. it's only from the center channel, so i have disabled it for now.

how can i tell if it's my center channel or my receiver? i have heard that some JVC have a hard time keeping up with the ATHENA speakers, as talked about here:
https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-audio/198390.html but before i send something back i want to make sure i send back the right component.

any suggestions.

Switch one of the speakers with the center channel. If the distortion still appears, then it could be your receiver.

Check the speaker settings as well.

i wasn't sure if that would work, because of the way a center channel speaker is made (i thought it was different), but i'll change it with one of my bookshelf speakers from another system (also ATHENA) and if it still does it, then i guess i know it's the receiver.

is this normal with receiver to not be able to keep up with the speakers?

my speaker setting is set to LARGE which is what ATHENA has them listed as. i don't know of any other settings to change that would make a difference.

"is this normal with receiver to not be able to keep up with the speakers? "

No, it is not normal. However, that particular JVC have weak power supplies and I do not doubt that it is having trouble supplying power to your speakers.

just my luck. so i'm guessing my other JVC receiver #RX-7010VBX:
http://www.athenaspeakers.com/v2/classic.php?ident=AS-C1&sub=specs
is just as bad too, because it seems to be doing the same thing with the ATHENA P5 center channel as well as when i test it with my ATHENA AS-C1:
http://www.athenaspeakers.com/v2/classic.php?ident=AS-C1&sub=specs

i have tested both center channels with both receivers and it does it with all combinations, so i'm guessing my receivers aren't producing enough power to keep up, or else both speakers went at the same time, which is unlikely.

is there any other way around this besides buying new receivers?

that bites. i hooked up my ATHENA AS-B1 front speaker my 2nd system to my receiver as the CENTER CHANNEL speaker and i still get muffling and crackling, so i guess it is my receivers and not my speakers.

how can i avoid this problem on my next receiver purchase? the JVC says it handles my speakers, but obviously not.

would this be considered a WARRANTY problem, or would they just send it back and say "we can't find anything wrong with it"?

You can alleviate the problem by getting a better reciever. Hopefully your JVC receiver was a learning experience. Avoid getting roped into the receiver's published wattage rating.

Now let's start with a budget.
