So I know that there have been tons of discussions about quality comparisons between Optical and Digital Coax, but I was curious about comparing these connections to a 6-Channel output. Any thoughts or studies that you guys know of?

The quality of the digital to analog conversion in the sending or receiving unit will determine which is best.

Someone correct me but I thought the six anolog connections were used for SACD and DVD audio only. If you use the six anolog connections you will fed Dolby Digital 5.1 to the receiver? And if the answer is no then there is no comparision betwen anolog and digital.

My universal player does feed DD 5.1 on its multi-channel surround analog outputs. The only reason I would want to hear a movie via those outputs is if I had reason to believe that this particular player does a better job of converting DD to analog than my receiver.

Yeah, well, maybe. Hey it's all analog when it hits your eardrums. :-)
