I am planning to finish my basement and setup a home theater there..
The size of the room is 10' 8" wide x 22'long x 9ft ht.
The screen is 45" x 80" and will be at a distance of 1 ft from the wall and 20' from the opposite wall, where the last row of seating will be.

If i have to setup the 5.1 config of speakers, where should the location be ?

Most sites recommend, that the front speakers should be as far from the listner as they are separated. But in my case, with the room so long, the front left and right speakers will end up being 8 to 10ft from the screen... pretty much half way from the screen. Is that right place to put the speakers ? Or should i put couple more by the screen ?

I also uploaded the basement plan, it is a bit map file. seating is shown in the drwng.

Any inputs are welcome,
Thanks,
Ramesh

Off topic, but something you should check into. Your smoke detector may be located incorrectly. Not sure of your local fire code regulations, but usually a smoke detector is located near the stairwell, which is where smoke will go first.
