Pioneer System Remote SR and SR+ cabling

I've searched for days to find information on this and thought I would share my results so others can easily find information on connecting Pioneer AV components with Pioneer's proprietary SR or the newer SR+ version.

The Pioneer SR interface allows one Pioneer remote to control other Pioneer components and synchronizes A/V switching amongst components. It is a daisy-chained type interface. The head components SR out connects to a second components SR in. The SR out / in are chained as many times as necessary... each requiring a cable.

The newer SR+ adds additional capabilities for Pioneer Plasma Displays such as the capability to display A/V receiver volume and surround settings on the display.

Here's the issues to be aware of should you try to connect components with this.

1) the circuitry requires the components share a common ground. This would normally be accomplished if you have RCA connectors between components (such as a digital coax or analog audio). The SR cable only will NOT accomplish this.

2) Although the connectors appear to be a standard 3.5 mm jack (the common type used on audio player earbuds) you should be aware this won't work in all cases. The older SR appears to work with a standard stereo (2-ring, 3-pole, or 3 conductor) cable. The newer SR+ adds additional information for plasma TV's and requires a special (hard to find) connector (3-ring, 4-pole, 4 conductor). Pioneer is very proud of these as they retail for about $30 per cable. The Pioneer part number is ADE7095.

It is available at the Part Store here:
http://www.partstore.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductSKU=7171721&s=sspro

or direct from Pioneer here:
http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/part.asp?productNum=ADE7095

I found a much cheaper version of this on eBay. At the time of this writing, the cost was $4.50 and about $2 shipping per cable. That link is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26item%3D7574615296

If that doesn't work, try searching for:
3.5mm Mini AV male/male plug

I hope this information is of help to others as I had a very hard time finding it and Pioneer's manuals and website are not of much help.

Thanks for the information. Does anyone know a repeater system that you can use with the SR+ system when you are not using the Pioneer plasma monitor? I tried Sonance and Niles but can't find any details. The Creston products may work according to another website but not absolute.
