www.vanns.com customer ratings are higher for the HTB-505 in both sound and ease of use. Plus the wire and remote that come with the HTB-505 are better.
Any thoughts on this?

Don't go by those silly consumer opinions. They're usually basically meaningless. Most of the reviews for both systems are glowing.
My advice to you is to try to listen to both and pick the one you like best. The Onkyo receiver is sonically superior to the Kenwood but that is expected as the system is about $100 more.
