hi there i have a cyberhome 505 ch-dvd player and a goodmans ghc 50 surround sound , I know this is a very cheap option but I am on a tiny budget. However my problem is when I speaker test on the dvd player all speakers work, they also work when in "virtual surround" BUT when in 5.1 mode sub does not work and some speakers are working when other speakers should be .This becomes obvious when using THX speaker test

Can you walk us through your set-up? I.E; does your receiver and DVD player have the same set up, speaker size small, DVD set to bitstream, etc? Sometimes the defaults are not set for a 5.1 surround system.

It SOUNDS like your DVD is not decoding 5.1 for you, OR your receiver is set to down scale all digital to mono, I cannot tell just from what you have posted, also I could be completely wrong and wasting your time... ;-)

Check the speaker connections, make sure you have the left/right, front/rear connections right.
