this may be a dumb question but I am new to this stuff, but my reciever is 5.1 capable and in the rear it has the inputs for the 5.1. Now it says front left and right as well as rear front and right. Now where does that hook to in order to use the 5.1 function? Does it go to the DVD player?
what receiver is it? anyway, if your dvd player has an optical or coaxial digital output, you should use that to hook it up to the receiver's digital input. The other inputs are for the analog output of the dvd player, if it is capable of SACD or DVD-Audio. it is difficult to tell with such limited information.
Its a crappy old Sony STR DE445 reciever. It has a lot of options and I really want to start using them since I am about to spend $1000 on new speakers for it.
