hi fellas..been a lurker for a while. Now it is time to get down to it. Small room in basement 13x16, no outside light. Several local dealers are trying to convince me to go inwall [my limited audio prowess tells me i will suffer sonically..this true]. So the setup. Probably a NAD, or denon amp, speakers..couple of options. Inwall B&W, inwall Paradigm, or the Magnapan [forget the model..the small home theater ones]. What i have no idea one is a projector. Hearing that i need to spend at least 2500+ to get somehitng decent. SO.....comments on components, inwall vs not, and of course can i get a projector in my range? Would love to stay under 3000 for components. Thanks

Hallo there.

Your room is 3 feet wider than mine, and 2 feet longer, and I feel that your will not suffer any loss, go for matching B&W or JBL across the front and you will have a front sound stage that will be on the money, don't let the Hi-Fi salesman pressurizes you into mismatching, let him mismatch his own home cinema, as for me I have been use matched JBL control 5 three across the front now for 16 years and the results are just like the cinema, nothing more nothing less.

As you know loudspeakers are sold in pairs so two pairs of the same loudspeakers for the front, the frequency response range sound pressure level and timber matching will be the same.

You will not regret it, mismatch and you will, look behind any cinema screen you will see nothing but the same loudspeakers, same goes for dubbing theatres as this where films are mixed and sound at there best.

Sub bass two are better than one?

If you are going to place loudspeakers in the walls think about this you can build a stud wall around any loudspeakers so don't let that fool you, ok.

Height surround in the ceiling in-ceiling loudspeakers yes around 8 for the size of you home cinema has 8 placed in a square like fashion will cover the sound above you, as heard in "We Where Soldiers.

As for side and back surrounds loudspeakers should be placed hormonally along the walls and the back placed 6 feet up and angled downwards around 15º to the centre point in the room.

Use around 8 bookshelf types and from the same manufacture.

AVR audio video receivers from / Kenwood, Pioneer, Yamaha, with 7.1 Dolby digital dts and THX select for the size of room as THX select is designed for small rooms up to 2.000cu ft is the THX ultra up to 3.000 cu ft
