I have an HTS-650 system without the bug. Please excuse my noobness. As I understand it, mode 3 is just the ".1" of the DVD soundtrack, so in this mode it's "true" 5.1. In mode 1, the subwoofer uses bass from other channels but it sounds stronger. So should I be listening to it in mode 3 or 1? Mode 3 seems like the preferable one, but the bass isn't quite there. Is this because the subwoofer is too weak? Thanks in advance =)

I'd like to know this too. Can anyone explain what the benefits of each subwoofer mode are?

check out liquidtheater.com. There is a checklist for optimiizing a 5.1 system. I took a quick look at the HTS-650 components, and I think you want to tell your receiver that your LF, RF, CC, LS, RS are all SMALL, and tell your sub to produce Bass from all SMALL channels plus the LFE from a 5.1 source. Should be good for videos and music that way. Luck.
