Hey guys,

New to the board. I'm looking to hook up a home theater system. I just bought a DLP Samsung HDTV. I'm getting an HD cable box with DVR. I also have a DVD player and a 4 yr old Kenwood receiver for my 5.1 surround. I'm trying to get the best sound out of my surround sound.

Here's what I know has to be hoked up.

HMDI cable from Cable box to HDTV
HDMI cable from DVD player to HDTV?
Now what about the receiver? I have an optical input on the receiver. Does that go to the DVD or TV? How do I involve the receiver to get true Dolby digital sound when playing both DVD and watching an HD channel on cable?

Thanks for you help

You need to connect the digital audio outputs of the cable box and the DVD into the receiver.
