Our space: about 24 x 14.5 or so. Sofa is centered on long wall with Tv across from it. Fronts on either side of tv, as usual. Center speaker is over tv. Sub is in a corner for now. Just hooked it up and want to get it right before we start running cables and drilling holes in walls. We want to wall-mount (flush) the rear Paradigm ADP470s. Should we mount them about 6' off the floor on the same wall as the sofa? We're new at this and it's harder than we thought!

Cinda,
Is it possible to install the speakers on either side of the sofa, rather than behind?

John, yes, he's in the middle of cutting down the bookcases on the short wall to do that. So the rears will be facing each other on the short wall at each end of the room. Hope thats right. Thanks

Cinda,

If you are planning to do you home theatre, there is the centre back surround and the height surround too, why not do the whole thing now rather than waiting a d reading about it, in a few months time.

For the surround array! You should stick to the same loudspeakers do not change the loudspeakers as there will be problems with the sensitivity as well as, the frequency response too.

As for in-wall loudspeakers I personally would touch them with a barge-poll, as they just plane and simple good bookshelf loudspeakers are the ticket for a pucker, home cinema set-up, dame easy to design into the room, than wasting time cutting the hell out of the room.

As for positioning place them high up close to the ceiling and angled downwards to the centre of the room, and hears a tip or something I have learnt,

The side surrounds as your room is long 24 feet you say, place around three to four down each side in a series wiring mode that is positive + output from the amp to + input on the loudspeaker then -- output from the loudspeaker to + input going to the next, until you get to the last loudspeaker then take the -- negative running into the amp, check for ohm, impedance of the loudspeakers and the amp as well, to see if it can drive the impedance load.

With a nice solid side wall of sound reinforcement with low level in bass and midrange and high too, that's what you should end up with if you plane in it correctly.

Now the centre back surround four placed and spaced nicely, and wire the first two loudspeakers on the right back wall in series, then on the left back wall wire the loudspeakers in series as well.

For height surround 8 to 16 loudspeakers and these ones, fit them into the ceiling, hay you what the Empire Leicester square screen #1, then you have to break the home cinema rules big time!

Have fun...
