WiiM Launches Sound and Sub Pro at High End Munich 2025 — A Direct Shot at Sonos’ Wireless Empire

The WiiM Sound smart speaker and WiiM Sub Pro deliver budget-priced multi-room wireless music streaming. Should Sonos be worried?

WiiM Sound, WiiM Sub Pro and WiiM Ultra Lifestyle

Gotta give it to WiiM. They knew exactly what they were doing from day one—launching with cheap-but-capable network streamers that looked harmless enough. Fast-forward to the Amp, Amp Pro, and the Vibelink we just reviewed, and it became clear: this wasn’t just budget audio. This was strategy. Then the WiiM Ultra hit and, yeah, it felt like the first Death Star just went up in a brilliant flash of light…while billions of little coders overseas screamed out in terror as Sonos cancelled the development of the “Pinewood” video streaming player. So ironic.

WiiM didn’t just build the best affordable network streamer—you could argue they perfected it. And then they went a step further with the WiiM Home App, which is so far ahead of the curve it makes the control software from Naim, NAD, Bluesound, and Sonos feel like it’s running on dial-up.

And just when Sonos thought it could breathe—boom. WiiM drops the Sound and Sub Pro: two wireless speakers that practically scream, “We’re coming for your empire.” You can hear the rebel flight crews racing across the tarmac on Yavin IV.

And wait till we tell you about the WiiM Amp Ultra. It’s like WiiM took the best features of the Ultra and the Amp Pro, threw in a touchscreen and some Dolby Digital, and made sure Sonos is now questioning every bad decision they’ve ever made.

The WiiM Sound: a high-res smart speaker that’s got it all—touchscreen, high-fidelity streaming, and built-in room correction. In other words, it’s got the chops to sound good, look good, and actually know how to adjust itself without asking for permission. Perfect for those who want audiophile sound without a giant rack of gear cluttering up the place.

Then there’s the WiiM Sub Pro: a 250-watt powered subwoofer designed to shake your floor and your soul with deep, precise bass. With auto room correction and both wired and wireless options, it’s got the flexibility to fit into any setup. Whether you’re thumping beats or filling out a home theater, this sub’s got the muscle—and a bit of an attitude.

As for the prices? Yeah, we don’t know yet, but if history’s any guide, they’ll be a lot less than you’d expect… which is a nice change.

The WiiM Platform

Both the WiiM Sound and WiiM Sub Pro are designed to integrate smoothly into the WiiM ecosystem, all controlled through the WiiM Home App. This app is really where the magic happens—offering everything from voice control and EQ customization to stereo pairing and surround sound setup. It puts full control of your entire audio experience right at your fingertips, across all devices and rooms, all from a single, user-friendly interface. It’s the kind of convenience that’s hard to overstate, and it’s clearly resonating with users.

WiiM Home App

From Dr. Lifeng Zhao, CEO of WiiM: “With the launch of WiiM Sound and WiiM Sub Pro, we’re filling a major gap in the market where high-fidelity audio, multi-room connectivity, user-friendliness, and affordability rarely meet…These new categories bring us closer to realizing our vision of delivering high-quality, flexible, whole-home sound systems that anyone can access and enjoy.”

WiiM Sound

With the WiiM Home App on your phone, you can switch playlists, adjust volume, or move music to different rooms with ease. Playback can also be managed directly through the 1.8-inch high-resolution touchscreen. The WiiM Sub Pro features a 250W amplifier designed to deliver controlled, deep bass with a sleek, modern appearance. It uses an 8-inch driver paired with a Class-D amplifier, offering a frequency range from 30Hz to 200Hz, making it well-suited for low-frequency sound in music, movies, and games.

Incorporating automatic room correction, the Sub Pro optimizes its performance based on the acoustics of the space, allowing for easier placement in your room. It supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth audio streaming via the WiiM Home App and includes an RCA input for additional connectivity options.

WiiM Sub Pro Feature Highlights

Wireless Connectivity: The Sub Pro includes Wi-Fi 6E, 802.11 b/g/n/ac/ax 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz, Bluetooth 5.3, and RCA input enabling seamless connection to a wide range of audio setups.

Smart Power Management: The Sub Pro automatically goes into standby mode when low-frequency audio signals are not detected. When bass signals are present, it is detected via the RCA input the Sub Pro activates to provide low-frequency output. This system optimizes energy use.

Precision Sound Enhancement: The Sub Pro includes Auto Room Correction for both the main speaker and subwoofer. This supports optimized bass performance that blends with the rest of the speakers in your system based on room acoustics.

Casting: As part of the growing WiiM Ecosystem, the WiiM Sound and Sub Pro, when paired with another source device, supports casting from music apps using Google Chromecast, Alexa Cast, DLNA, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect.

Whole House Audio: The WiiM Sound and Sub Pro are fully compatible with existing WiiM products, whether you’re integrating them with the WiiM Ultra for high-quality streaming or pairing them with multiple WiiM Minis for a seamless whole-home, multi-room setup. They also work with the WiiM Amp Ultra to deliver enhanced audio performance across different spaces. All devices are managed through the easy-to-use WiiM Home App, allowing users to control playback, group rooms, and access music services like Spotify, Amazon Music, TIDAL, and more.

The Sound and Sub Pro work with existing WiiM products – whether integrating with the WiiM Ultra for streaming or combining with multiple WiiM Minis for a whole-home, multi-room setup. All devices can be managed through the intuitive WiiM Home App. With the app, users can control playback, group rooms, and access to music services including Spotify, Amazon Music, TIDAL, and more.

The Bottom Line

With streamers and amps starting at just $99, WiiM made its name catering to budget-conscious audio nerds who didn’t want to compromise on performance. Over the past two years, they’ve gone from plucky upstart to full-blown disruptor—pumping out new products like clockwork, cutting deals with Origin Acoustics for custom install gear, and teaming up with Audio Pro on a pair of smart speakers.

Now they’re making an even bolder move: launching the WiiM Sound and Sub Pro—two wireless products that look and feel like the first serious steps toward building a full-blown multi-room ecosystem. Sound familiar? It should. Sonos should probably stop pretending everything’s fine.

WiiM already has a growing lineup of streamers, integrated amps, and now these new wireless components. A soundbar wouldn’t be a surprise at this point—maybe something to take on the Beam Gen 2 or Arc Ultra directly. And if WiiM’s control app stays this clean and user-friendly, Sonos might find itself stuck defending overpriced hardware with a glitchy UI and a lot of unhappy loyalists.

We don’t have insider info on what’s next, but the roadmap’s practically writing itself. If the Sound and Sub Pro catch on, WiiM could end up offering a more flexible, more affordable, and better-managed home audio platform than Sonos ever dreamed.

Minus the absence of industrial design creativity, because both the subwoofer and speakers look a lot like other products from the two brands that matter most in the category…they might have something here.

The app is what sells it.

    And hopefully the price.

That is true. But did you really expect Phillipe Starck at these prices?

The subwoofer looks a lot like the Sonos subwoofer. It just does.

But it might be 1/2 the price which will give it an edge.

Hmmmm. As I have noted on Ian’s discussion, this also seems like a shot at Bluesound, especially since their speakers are state of the art 2019 (?). The sub in question is beyond my physical capacities, but it is a VERY interesting development. Good on WiiM.

The people at WiiM are just killing it. Best of luck to them.

      David,

It’s a huge move for them. And one that is likely to pay off.

        David,

They also work with Qobuz Connect as of today. The entire WiiM ecosystem including the Ultra and Amp Pro. TIDAL Connect has been around for years, but they have lost all momentum. Their parent company isn’t kicking ass, but also remember that TIDAL represents an accounting rounding error on their balance sheet. Firing 25% of their staff cut them down a lot. They also have a different marketing approach.

The list of brands that support Qobuz Connect out of the box is impressive. Almost everyone that matters.

This…this right here is what I will be following once it’s released to add to our living room to replace some aging (and lacking) HK speakers. I’ve never been a Sonus fan and this could be the perfect solution – wireless and good value for money sound. Maybe it might come in white and/or different colorways?

It’s also great to see integration with Qobuz who seem to be on fire currently…in a good way.

It seems patience is a virtue in this space as you guys keep bringing the receipts and highlighting the companies that understand the current [economic] landscape in Audiophileville. Thank you all!
