Viewsonic Announces the First Digital Signage Solutions That Eliminate the Local PC

ORLANDO, June 7, 2006 — ViewSonica Corp. today bolstered its portfolio of digital signage solutions for retail, education and hospitality markets by unveiling its new NMP-500 Network Media Player and a 42-inch ND4200-LS Net IP integrated displays at InfoComm06. Featuring a fully featured Web browser and high-definition video processing capabilities, the NMP-500 media player and ND4200-LS display are versatile, display solutions for businesses that need to communicate digital media content to the masses. Streaming video and HTML information via Ethernet at up to 20 MB per second, both products integrate seamlessly with existing network infrastructure, translating into minimal start-up costs for customers. The integrated ND4200-LS also features an internal 40GB hard drive to support local playback of digital media content.

A key advantage of ViewSonic’s NMP-500 and integrated ND4200-LS display is that they are based on open standards including standard IP protocols for content management and streaming high definition video. A fully-featured Mozilla Web browser allows users to view HTML Web pages including Macromedia Flash animations while also streaming MPEG 1/2/4 video signals, in real-time. By eliminating the need for a dedicated PC to decode Flash and other video signals from the Internet before being displayed, the NMP-500 network media player can save the end-user thousands of dollars in additional hardware costs and software licensing fees. Removing the complexity and cost of proprietary digital signage solutions, ViewSonic’s solutions support standard HTML authoring tools, such as Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver and Frontpage to provide an easy-to-use signage offering. Both products operate on the Linux operating system–making them extremely reliable and far less susceptible to viruses or malfunctions typically associated with PC-based systems–and can be managed remotely via Internet Protocol (IP) to eliminate the need for on-site technical support.

The NMP-500 can be combined with any ViewSonic display, such as ViewSonic’s N4200w large screen LCD TV, to provide a myriad of signage possibilities. Restaurants can use ViewSonic’s digital signage solutions to stream high-definition sporting events to dozens of screens. Transportation centers can use the solution to make up-to-the-minute changes to scheduling information, while large retailers can remotely manage promotional offers displayed at every store across the enterprise by simply using a Web interface. Both solutions can also broadcast several signals to different areas of a screen simultaneously to allow hotel guests to view a video welcome message from management, a floor plan directory of services for the hotel, as well as the local weather ticker on the bottom of the screen.

“ViewSonic is delivering on the commitment to provide digital signage solutions that are affordable, easy to install, and fully customizable,” said Jeff Volpe, vice president of marketing, ViewSonic. “By taking the PC out of the equation and allowing users to manage information via the Web, ViewSonic’s NMP-500 is helping business of all sizes bring up-to-the-minute information to their customers with ease, for a substantially lower price-point than our competitors.”

The NMP-500, with an estimated street price (ESP) of $699, and the ND4200 solutions, priced at $4,999 ESP, are available through authorized ViewSonic resellers.
