Terra Loudspeakers introduced LuminSound, a new outdoor light and speaker combination that delivers superb quality audio and highly efficient and flexible LED lighting from an attractive and totally weatherproof stealth black bollard (bollard is a lighting industry term describing short, post-like fixtures).
“We believe the LuminSound concept and the LS.32 in particular represents a solution that has never existed before. When installed as a package (described below) it’s a complete outdoor high fidelity entertainment system (all that’s required additionally is a source) that’s also an advanced LED lighting system offering flexibility and equally high performance. Even its look can be customized, as the aluminum grille that surrounds the speaker housing is available in three standard colors, black, aluminum or copper to facilitate visual integration into the landscaping,” said James Banfield, President of Terra.
The LS.32 is a 32.5-inch high black column and may be ordered as either a down or up light to illuminate a pathway/patio, greenery, or other architectural elements. The upper section contains a Terra-built weatherproof 5.25″ co-axial loudspeaker while the lower section contains weatherproof MR-16 multi-LED lamps. The speaker is mounted at a 45 degree up angle to enhance sound coverage. The LS.32 is set for 70.7 volt or 8 Ohm operation with a built-in switch located behind the grille. The speaker incorporates Terra’s ACAD ceramic/alloy cone and MFCS fluid cooled spider-free technologies. Tech info on ACAD and MFCS is available at the Terra Web Site.
The speaker section can be rotated 355 degrees independent of the lighting section so audio and illumination can be separately directed for optimum enjoyment. The waterproof MR-16 lamp resides in an aimable powder coated cast aluminum housing for further adjustment. Terra is using a 3-LED warm white lamp that provides 270 lumens of beautiful, high efficiency illumination wherever it’s needed. The LS.32 bollard is rotationally molded from .25-inch thick polyethylene so it’s built to withstand long-term exposure to the elements including salt spray and chlorine mist without degradation.
The LS.32 will be offered alone and as part of a package including six LS.32 bollards, a weather-proof AC to 12-volt DC lighting power supply, a single Terra partial-burial AC.SUB subwoofer and a Crown CDi 1000 custom programmed power amplifier (limited system customization will be allowed).
The Crown two-channel amplifier includes pre-programmed Digital Signal Processing that fully integrates the speakers in the bollards with the subwoofer and automatically optimizes the audio performance of the system.
The LS.32 comes with a mounting flange and 30-inch PVC pipe which is driven into the earth to facilitate secure ground mounting.
Like every Terra all-climate speaker, the audio components of the LS.32 carry a Limited Lifetime Warranty while the lighting components have a Limited 2-year Warranty.
Price and Availability
The LuminSound LS.32 will be available October 31st, 2011 for about $700-$800 per bollard (possibly installed, depending upon the dealer).
