Sony Electronics today introduced a line of FD Trinitron WEGA direct-view televisions, including a new HDTV in the award-winning XBR line.

The complete line UP includes a 34-inch, fully integrated high definition set, and standard definition models in 36-inch, 32-inch and 27-inch sizes (measured horizontally).

“There’s still plenty of consumer demand for direct-view televisions,” said Tom Evans, vice president of television marketing for Sony Electronics. “They provide people looking to step-up to HD television a great value and for others satisfied with standard definition, an attractive price and solid performance.”

Sony’s New XBR HDTV
Leading this year’s direct-view lineup is the 34-inch 16:9 KD-34XBR970 model with top-of-the-line performance features and advanced picture technologies.

With such advanced image functions as Digital Reality Creation Multi Function Circuitry (DRC-MF), CineMotion inverse 3:2 pulldown, Dynamic Picture™ processor circuitry, ClearEdge VM™ and Trinitone color temperature technology, this HD set delivers stunning picture performance.

The 1080i native resolution model also features a built-in ATSC 8VSB digital tuner with clear QAM and a NTSC tuner for easy access to high-definition and standard-definition programming. Additionally, the set offers an HDMI™ (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and two component inputs for connecting other devices, such as an high-definition cable or satellite tuner and a DVD player.

FD Trinitron WEGA FS-Series
Sony is also adding three new 4:3 standard-definition models to the FS-series FD Trinitron WEGA lineup. The 36-inch KD-36FS170, 32-inch KV-32FS170 and 27-inch KV27FS170 models all feature built-in ATSC digital and NTSC tuners.

Additionally, the 480i native resolution models feature Sony’s Dynamic Picture Processing Circuitry, Trinitone Color Temperature, a 3-Line Digital Comb Filter, ClearEdge VM and Dynamic Picture processor circuitry for sharp picture quality.

The sets are equipped with one 480i component, one S-video and two composite inputs, as well as one digital (ATSC) and one analog (UHF/VHF) RF connections.

Continuing in the FD Trinitron WEGA line are the 24-inch KV-24FS120 and 20-inch KV-20FS120 models. Both standard-definition models feature NTSC tuner, component inputs, Trinitone Color Temperature and Dynamic Picture Processor Circuitry.

The KD-34XBR970 34-inch HDTV will be available in March for about $1,200. The KD-36FS170, KV-32FS170 and KV-27FS170 models, also available in March, will retail for about $1,000, $600 and $400, respectively.
