Sonance Doubles Up Surface-Mount Family

518564.jpg

San Clemente, CA–September 2008–Sonance has doubled its Surface Mount speaker selection with the addition of a new single-stereo version, the SM55 SST. This expands the Sonance range of custom-installation audio solutions–already unmatched in the custom audio installation world–to include a single-speaker answer for situations in which neither in-wall or in-ceiling installations nor conventional loudspeakers are possible.

The new Sonance Surface Mount SM55 SST single stereo model combines a single, dual-voice coil 5-1/4-inch carbon fiber cone woofer with two flanking, wide-range 1-inch silk dome ferrofluid-cooled tweeters, for unexpectedly spacious and natural stereo playback from a single speaker location. Smooth, broad coverage delivers convincing sound to a wide range of listening positions, making the SM55 SST ideal for small rooms, alcoves, and hallways.

As with the existing Surface Mount SM55 stereo-pair sibling, installing the SM55 SST requires only a screwdriver and a few moments of the installer’s time, making either model an ideal solution for installation restricted homes such as Multi Dwelling Units (MDU), where in-ceiling speakers are challenging to install.

A simple, round steel mounting plate accepts conventional speaker wiring and is affixed to a standard ceiling “J-box” via two supplied screws. The loudspeaker itself is then simply set in place–and is instantly and firmly held in place by a ring of powerful neodymium magnets inset into the speaker’s upper surface. A signal connection is automatically made between two male terminals integrated into the speaker and corresponding swiveling females in the mounting-plate–then, after being set in place the SM55 SST speaker may be rotated up to 90 degrees to align it to room surfaces, fixtures, or to a designer’s preference.

Good sensitivity joins with substantial power handling to make the SM55 SST compatible with a wide range of high-performance multizone, stereo, or multichannel electronics. Protruding just 2-1/2 inches from the ceiling surface, the new 10-3/4-inch-square Sonance SM55 SST includes a one-piece, removable, and paintable perforated-aluminum grille.
