PentaWare Solves Zip Strong Encryption Compatibility Issues
PentaSuite and PentaZip Now Compatible with PKZip, Secure Zip, and WinZip

PORTSMOUTH, NH — (July 15, 2004) – PentaWare, Inc., has announced today that PentaZip and PentaSuite now support strong encryption that is fully compatible with PKZip 8.0, Secure Zip 8.0, and WinZip 9.0 Encrypted Zip file formats.

With this latest release, PentaSuite and PentaZip solve issues relating to encrypted zip file formats supported by PKZip, Secure Zip, and WinZip that are decrypted and readable by both PentaZip and PentaSuite. Support has been added by PentaWare for internally encrypted zip files of unlimited size using the Enhanced Deflate (Deflate64) method combined with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) strong encryption and decryption. Unencrypted Zip file formats supported by PKZip, Secure Zip, and WinZip have always been supported by PentaWare products.

“We implemented security in the form of Strong Encryption in 2002 when we introduced PGP Encryption after signing a licensing agreement with PGP, Inc. We decided to add PKZip and WinZip style strong encryption to make sure that our users could continue to exchange compressed/encrypted files with users that are equipped with programs produced by these other manufacturers,” said Claude Ostfeld, President and CEO of PentaWare, Inc. “It was a promise we made to our dedicated users in 2003 which we have kept.”

These features were added to guarantee compatibility with zip files created with the products of PKWare, Inc. and WinZip, Inc. PentaZip has offered unlimited size zip files since 2001 and strong encryption based on PGP, AES, DES, Triple DES, MARS, and Blowfish since 2002. The PentaSuite product is an end-to-end file management program, which supplies users with a means to open, compress, encrypt, view, upload or download, store and send files. PentaZip is our award winning Compressed File program which is available as a separate product as well as being an integral part of PentaSuite.

PentaSuite and PentaZip are available at www.pentaware.com. PentaSuite has an MSRP of: $99.95 while PentaZip has an MSRP of $39.95. Both PentaSuite and PentaZip are available in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
