New Epson PowerLite S3 Multimedia Projector for Office, School and Home Applications Delivers 1,600 ANSI Lumens For $899

LONG BEACH, Calif., April 25, 2005 — High Value Projector Features Renowned Epson 3LCD Image Quality, Easy Setup and Several New Control Features Including Color Management Tools and “Instant Off™”

Epson America Inc. today introduced a new multi-purpose projector designed for office, classroom and home applications. The Epson PowerLite S3 offers 1,600 ANSI-lumens of brightness and SVGA (800 x 600) native resolution in a sleek, new 5.6-pound design for $899. The projector is driven by Epson’s renowned 3LCD technology, a three-chip design that projects continuous color and bright natural images that are easy on viewers’ eyes.

“The PowerLite S3 is arguably the most value-packed, entry-level multimedia projector on the market today,” said Aaron Marinari, senior product manager, Epson America. “Whether it’s being used for business presentations, lessons in the classroom, viewing digital photos, watching movies, or playing video games, just about any user should find it easy to set up and use. But most importantly, they will especially be impressed with the high level of image quality it provides and other valuable features that you just won’t find from other projectors in this category.”

Easy Setup and Operation

The PowerLite S3 is strategically engineered to help presenters and home entertainment enthusiasts of all levels get their projector up and running as quickly and easily as possible. When the power button is pressed, a verification tone lets users know immediately that the power is on, and in just five seconds the projected image will begin to appear on screen allowing them to use the projector almost immediately. The projector also automatically recognizes if a cable from a computer or video device has been plugged into one of its input ports and then displays that signal immediately without having to press any buttons. Furthermore, a new feature called “Instant Off™” makes it possible to power down and unplug the projector immediately, eliminating delays often associated with cool-down cycles.

The PowerLite S3’s power-efficient, 135-watt lamp produces up to 1,600 ANSI lumens of brightness for clear viewing, even in well-lit rooms. This lamp is rated up to 3,000 hours and is replaceable for $199.

The projector’s operating noise is extremely quiet (as low as 28 db), and finding an ideal display position is easy since it can project a 60-inch image from only 5.9 feet from the screen. It also includes +/- 30 degrees keystone correction, which can be especially ideal for ceiling-mounted installations. Furthermore, a comprehensive software-based security feature helps deter theft and unauthorized use.

Color Management Tools

For users who place a premium on color accuracy and gamut (such as digital photographers), the PowerLite S3 offers several color adjustment tools that typically aren’t available on most entry-level projectors. There are several manually adjustable video controls, as well as different pre-programmed color modes accessible within the projector’s user interface that are optimized for specific video applications such as Presentation, Theater, Game, etc. The projector even features a unique “Photo” mode that uses black and white enhancement levels to help make details more visible in over- and under-exposed images.

Availability and Support

The EPSON PowerLite S3 comes with a valuable two-year limited warranty and is currently shipping to national retailers, pro audio/visual dealers, mail order, and PC resellers.
