LG Blu-ray player allows consumers to enjoy DivX HD videos up to 1080p on the TV via DVD, USB or streamed over a home network

DivX, Inc., a digital media company, and LG Electronics today announced the first LG Blu-ray Disc player capable of playing back 1080p high-definition (HD) DivX video files. The LG BD390, a WiFi-enabled Blu-ray Disc Player now available in the United States and Europe, allows consumers to play their favorite DivX HD videos from their PC to the TV.

Consumers are using HD video across multiple platforms and devices, and there is a strong demand for playback of DivX HD files. By adding DivX support to the BD390, now consumers can play DivX video up to HD 1080p burned to DVDs or stored on USB flash drives. DivX HD 1080p content can also be streamed directly from a network with a DLNA server making it simple for consumers to playback their library of favorite HD videos.

Typical HD video requires a considerable amount of digital storage space, but DivX HD video provides a superior media experience by maintaining the highest visual quality while significantly reducing the digital file size of the video. Using DivX technology, users can fit approximately two hours of high-quality DivX HD video on an 8GB media card.

“LG is heralding a new direction for the Blu-ray industry with the full-feature high-end BD390 and incorporating support for DivX HD 1080p video is a key product differentiator,” said Simon Kang, CEO and President of LG Home Entertainment Company. “With playback for DivX HD, the LG BD390 provides an expanded full HD viewing experience.”

“LG is a market leader and an award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, and we are thrilled to work with them to provide the first LG BD player that is DivX Certified for 1080p HD playback,” said Kevin Hell, Chief Executive Officer, DivX, Inc. “The LG BD30 makes it easier than ever for consumers to playback their library of DivX HD content burned to DVD, stored on USB flash drives or streamed directly into the living room.”

Products that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone a rigorous testing program to ensure a high-quality DivX media experience, including reliable video creation and playback, interoperability with other DivX Certified devices and the visual high quality users expect from DivX.
