Lenovo ThinkCentre A55 Small Form Factor Desktop PC Announced

Lenovo Expands Desktop Lineup to Go Small on Size, Big on Value

Lenovo today announced the new ThinkCentre A55 Small Form Factor (SFF) desktop PC, packing in leading technologies, such as Intel Core 2 Duo processors and the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, all in the size of an average briefcase.

As companies look for ways to efficiently use office space, desktop real-estate can quickly become the target of IT managers and business owners. The ThinkCentre A55 SFF desktop is approximately 64 percent smaller than Lenovo’s traditional tower form factor and 25 percent smaller than its conventional small desktop. Its smaller footprint can free up desk space for other items, such as an extra monitor for dual-monitor work environments or a personal printer and scanner.

“We are seeing an increased adoption of small form factor desktops in settings such as healthcare, education, financial institutions and call-centers,” said Tom Tobul, executive director, desktop marketing, Lenovo. “Adding the ThinkCentre A55 Small Form Factor desktop PC to our ThinkCentre line gives small-to-medium business users access to the best engineered PCs in a small, full-featured design. These PCs give users the latest innovations like the new Windows Vista operating system and our innovative ThinkVantage Technologies in a compact form.”

Educational institutions, such as Iredell-Statesville Schools in North Carolina, recently chose to use 5,300 Lenovo notebooks and desktop PCs in labs, classrooms and offices in its more than 30 schools.

“Priority number one has been – and will continue to be – providing our students with technology tools that foster their educational growth,” said Pam Schiffman, chief technology officer, Iredell-Statesville Schools. “We chose to use Lenovo’s ThinkCentre small form factor desktops because of their size, reliability and ease-of-use. With limited space in the classroom and labs, these PCs will give us the size advantages of a notebook PC at an affordable price. Also, using Lenovo’s ThinkVantage Technologies makes it easier for students to do their work and for our IT staff to efficiently maintain the PCs.”

The new desktop comes equipped with Lenovo ThinkVantage Technologies (TVTs), such as Rescue and Recovery and Client Security System, which help reduce costs for data recovery and password management.

Beginning January 30, customers will be able to purchase select PCs in Lenovo notebook and desktop lines preloaded with Windows Vista. Lenovo has integrated its software productivity tools, TVTs and Lenovo Care, with the new operating system. These tools enhance the Windows Vista experience while helping to lower the total cost of PC ownership, an item important to businesses. Select models of Lenovo PCs will also be ready for the 2007 Microsoft Office Business Suites.
