Esoteric Announces New Prices For MG-10/MG-20 Magnesium Speakers

ESOTERIC, a division of TEAC America, Inc., manufacturer of high end consumer electronics, demonstrated their innovative Magnesium (“Mg”), loudspeaker systems at CEDIA 2008. The technology behind Esoteric’s model MG-10/MG-20 speakers was honored for design and engineering in “Innovations 2008” competition. Innovations awards are given annually by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). In June 2008, floor standing model MG-20 was also honored with a “2008 Golden Ear Award,” by The Absolute Sound, the leading industry trade publication.

Esoteric introduced the world’s first two way loudspeaker systems utilizing full Magnesium (Mg) woofers and tweeters including magnesium dust caps. With the high internal energy dissipation of Mg, these speakers feature exceptional accuracy, superior audio resolution and crystal-clear transparency, free from metallic and paper coloration inherent with other driver materials. This new implementation overcomes the prior obstacles associated with all magnesium designs, through the development of proprietary chemical coatings.

The Mg technology was developed by Esoteric’s sound engineering department and the drivers and sealant coatings are manufactured jointly with Nippon Kinzoku of Japan. Custom piston assembly and trapezoidal cabinets are used to eliminate standing waves. Components and crossovers are hardwired using Van Del Hul silver wiring. Under Esoteric supervision, final acoustic tuning, manufacture and assembly take place in the U.K. by world-renowned British speaker manufacturer, Tannoy Ltd.

Through the recent amortization of R&D expense, the MG-10 monitors now retail at $3000. per pair. Optional anti-resonance stands are available. Model MG-20 retails at $7000. per pair. MG-20 pricing includes anti-resonance stands. Both systems are available now through Esoteric’s dealer network of audio/video specialists.
