BOE HYDIS Moves into Mobile Phone LCDs

Korean TFT-LCD manufacturer, BOE HYDIS, has announced its plan to begin manufacturing high-end mobile displays in February 2005, using their industry-renown AFFS wide viewing angle technology.

The company is now at the stage of sample verification through the distribution of the sample trial products to its customers.

This decision is in response to industry demands which call for better mobile phone displays. The correlation in sales and revenue increases to mobile LCD displays with more advanced technologies has prompted BOE HYDIS to enter the competition.

Last year, BOE HYDIS completed development of 2 inch QCIF+ and 2.2 inch QVGA applications to an enthusiastic reception from participants at the FPD International 2004 in Japan.

Mobile LCD products to be manufactured this year are 1.8, 2, and 2.2 inch QCIF+ and QVGA applications applied with AFFS (Advanced Fringe Field Switching) technology. Manufacturing will be concentrated to the two production lines (L1 and L2) located in Icheon, South Korea.

BOE HYDIS plans to market two product lines; a more basic mobile panel line (TN mode) and a high-end line using AFFS technology.

Building on these two lines, the company will continue to further explore the mobile market to include DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), video, and high definition camera enabled phones to its product line.
