Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 10 LCD HDTV

The thinnest B&O television to date in 40-inch or 46-inch screen sizes with LED technology

Bang & Olufsen, the Danish provider of high-end audio and video products, introduces its third video product to launch in the North American market this fiscal year. BeoVision 10 is a full HD TV based on the new LED technology.

It features a 240 Hz LCD panel with impressive performance applying the latest picture improvement technologies. The 240 Hz technology, combined with sophisticated motion compensation, bring the performance of the LCD panel to an unprecedented level of smoothness.

In addition to the stunning picture, the slim beauty delivers impressive sound with its custom-made bass port design. BeoVision 10 has an integrated stereo speaker placed below the screen and covered by a fabric front. It offers integrated surround sound and a peripheral unit controller, electronic curtains and an extensive connection panel allowing up to five extra speakers for a surround sound setup.

Slim design thanks to LED-based LCD technology
The slim design of BeoVision 10 is obtained by applying a new LCD technology in which an edge-type LED backlight is used and by placing the chassis and loudspeakers below the screen. The backlight unit consists of a large number of white LEDs positioned on the edges of the panel. The light from the LEDs is spread evenly across the panel by means of an optical light guide system.

The entire TV solution is covered by an elegant front glass with a sophisticated anti-reflection coating and framed by a high-gloss polished aluminum profile on both the front and rear. The designer worked with surface treatment and angles to obtain maximum surface on the screen. The two aluminum profiles are angled which allows them to take up a minimal part of the total glass covered TV surface. The result is one large piece of black glass in a square format which enhances the impression of the TV as a piece of art or wall decor when switched off. Furthermore, the designer ordered that the dimensions of BeoVision 10 resemble typical heigth and width measurements commonly found in posters and paintings, reinforcing the notion of blending in with the owner’s decor.

The slim appearance is further enhanced by the curved rear profile that reflects the color of the wall and thereby gives the optical impression of being part of the wall. The frame is split into front and rear sections to make the TV look thinner. As a result, one can hardly see the rear frame, even when looking at the TV from an angle.

The combination of glass, high-gloss polished aluminum and a completely black screen makes BeoVision 10 an extremely versatile solution in any environment.

Genius acoustic solutions
Although BeoVision 10 is a flat screen TV, it offers anything but flat sound. It has a genuine active two-way stereo loudspeaker system with a center bass. The bass system is ported while the treble and midrange are working in a closed cabinet. The acoustic engineers have met the challenge of the slim TV, by creating a tailor-made bass port design. Placing the port opening behind the screen results in a better bass performance as noise and turbulence from this port are masked by the screen.

“We expect to recruit many new customers with BeoVision 10,” says Zean Nielsen, President of Bang & Olufsen America, Inc. “This product is visually stunning, versatile, and has a very attractive price point that can fit into a variety of home environments.”

Freedom of color choice and wall placement
The appearance of the black glass surface is split by a rectangular fabric front cover for the speakers. The cover is surrounded by glass so it visually hovers above the glass surface. The cover will be available in black, white, silver, dark grey, blue and orange. The grill cover simply clicks into place via magnets, making it easy to change the speaker color whenever one desires.

For extended viewing comfort, BeoVision 10 is discretely hinged on the left or right-hand side, allowing for manual adjustment up to a 45-degree angle from the wall when mounted on the optional wall bracket.

BeoVision 10 will be available in all North American showroom locations by summer 2010. MSRP for television screen starts at $6,248. As shown in stores, the price is $7,675 which includes wall bracket, Beo4 remote, and upgraded anti-reflective screen. Other upgrades are also available upon customer request.

46-inch member of the BeoVision 10 family
Although built on the same chassis as BeoVision 10-40, the 46-inch version introduces a few new additions. Besides giving a viewing area that is 32 percent bigger in square centimetres, the visual appearance of the 46-inch TV differs a bit from that of its smaller sibling. The rear cover has been changed to white instead of black, giving the product a lighter expression and supporting the concept of having a TV that blends in with the wall.

The 240 Hz technology combined with sophisticated motion compensation technologies take the motion performance of the LCD panel to a yet unseen level of smoothness.

The LCD panel inside offers the latest in edge-type LED technology with the LEDs placed at two sides only — top and bottom of the panel — as the efficiency of the LEDs has improved significantly and this optimises the picture uniformity.
