Atlantic Technology Corners Subwoofer Market

NORWOOD, MA (3/28/06) — Atlantic Technology has begun shipping its corner-mounted 10 CSB subwoofer, designed for placement in the corner of a theater to enhance bass performance while minimizing visual impact on the room. The 180 Watt powered subwoofer features a 10-inch down-firing woofer in a sealed enclosure that can be painted to match the walls or decor to increase the ‘stealth’ factor.

“This addresses a basic problem with theater installations,” said Atlantic Technology President Peter Tribeman. “The customer wants great sound, but doesn’t want to see a box subwoofer in the room and doesn’t want to cut into their walls. What are they left with? We not only solved this problem, we managed to come up with a system that actually performs better, because it incorporates corner-loaded placement in the design.”

It has long been understood that placing a subwoofer in a corner (known as corner loading) greatly increases deep bass response and sound pressure level. The 10 CSB subwoofer takes advantage of this fact, giving it substantially higher output and–because of its specifically-tailored corner-mount equalization–improved response when compared to ordinary box-type subwoofers. The equalization in conventional boxed subwoofers is of necessity a compromise because those subwoofers’ location in the room can’t be known in advance.

The 10 CSB subwoofer uses a 10-inch long-throw composite cone driver that features a vented motor structure and oversized high temperature voice coil for improved performance and reliability with even the most demanding sound effects. Like all Atlantic Technology subwoofers, it employs a sealed enclosure for smooth and linear bass response throughout the operating range.

The 180 Watt amplifier module is a high-current design that delivers exceptional driver control and cool operation. It is precision matched and equalized to the driver, and includes a phase inversion switch and adjustable (40 Hz to 140 Hz) 18 dB/octave crossover for proper integration with a range of satellite speakers. It also features both low-level and high-level inputs for use with nearly any amplification and satellite speaker combionation.

The Atlantic Technology 10 CSB is currently available at a suggested retail price of $899.
